I purchased a 14k mile 2022 GT from a Ford Dealership and after a month of ownership discovered that I have the Coyote tick. Nothing terrible, really loving the car but thought id check the service records of what was done prior to my purchasing of the vehicle . I noticed that the oil was changed and the part number for the oil shows "MotorCraft 10W-30 WSS-M2C1" which if I am not mistaken appears to be diesel engine oil according to the part number. Is this okay? Thanks

Go right over their head and tell FORD customer warranty that the dealer put a non-recommended oil in the engine and you want to file a claim for engine replacement.

They'll either accept the claim, or deny it. I'd take the chance for a new engine.

Is it possible the dealer used the correct oil but made a mistake on your receipt?

Pretty large mistake if it was indeed done wrong. Quality is job none.

Is that just a hail Mary hoping for a new motor?
As long as the viscosity is right, diesel engine oil is not going to hurt anything. With all the extra additives the engine will probably be as clean as when it was new.

it is not. No s550 calls for 10wXX oil.
Fair enough. However, the recommendation is 5w30 according to my owners manual. And it's pretty widely recognized that Ford uses 5w, or even 0w for some engines, purely for EPA reasons. So I think it's safe to say that going to a 10w oil is not going to cause any harm.

not going to hurt anything but if it's cold where you are I'd go 5w-30

Thats correct, however if your engine blows and you tell Ford you used say a diesel formulated 10w30, guess what they'll tell you ;)

This service was AFTER the vehicle was traded in. Also, I forgot to mention that this vehicle is covered by Ford Blue Advantage GOLD Certified Warranty to 100K miles. The extended warranty was offered to me free of change which is one of the reasons why I purchased it.

Double overhead bearingless cams, 5 feet of cam chains x2, several feet of oil passages to get the oil from the pickup to the bearingless cam journals require 0W or 5W. If the car is started in cold weather 10W won’t get to the critical parts mentioned quick enough.

That last sentence is the important part though. And even then, cold start damage accrues over tens of thousands of miles. I'm not saying I'd leave it like that, but my concern level would be low.

Bring it up to the dealership, have it documented on paper from the head of service or the dealership GM admitting that they made a mistake and put wrong oil in it. Have the oil changed to the recommended 5W-30 and send a sample to Blackstone Labs to see what oil it was. If anything happens you can fall back and blame it on the oil change because you have it in writing.

A difference of 5 or hell even 10 in either direction is not going to hurt anything and neither will a bottle labeled "diesel oil". I'd maybe talk to the service department and show them that paperwork, would probably get you a free oil change. But definitely not even remotely a worry for me. In the installation instructions for the Ford Performance supercharger kit it says to switch to running 5W-50 oil
