About to set my car on fire... a finger in the right direction would be very appreciated.

I’ll try to look over the logs I had sent Lund last month to see if I can find the VCT operations you’re referencing.

i do have an extra set of new timing related stuff in cause we do have to tear down into the engine. Was hoping it would be an “easier” fix before taking that route.

So this first screenshot is VCT1 and VCT2 intake. These seem to match.

This one is VCT1 and VCT2 exhaust. These do not match, like VCT2 exhaust goes offline or something.

I have been having bank two exhaust cam timing issues and currently getting timing gear phasers and vcts replaced. During strip down it was discovered the secondary chain tensioner for bank 2 was compressible by thumb pressure. Hopefully this is the issue and replacement fixes my own issues but might also be something to look for on your engine.

Man I was afraid of something like and it especially sucks since this was all new timing components too.

Lund had mentioned after I asked again about what they think could be going on. Timing appears to be good from a high level but there's something else going on which could be assembly related. I guess they were referring to anything along the timing mechanical flow could be messed up; phaser, chain, guide, tensioners, etc.

Once my engine gets opened up again, I'll definitely have them check out each component like that tensioner in your situation though.

I’ve had new phasers, solenoids, sensors, pigtails, chains, tensioners, OPG/CS.. nothing fixed mine. Hope you boys don’t run into whatever my issue is

The secondary chain tensioners can be checked while the valve covers are off if one was in there changing vct solenoids. All electrical signals seemed fine for my car so we figured it has to mechanical related. Fck knows, damned modern engines

Just skimming through this thread after messaging honeybadger that I was having some issues that could possibly be the harness.

So for me after a fresh build:
-Gen 3 Stage 3 FFRE short block
-Gen 2 heads, stock cams
-PAC 1234X valve springs
-ARP head studs
-All new timing components (Boss tensioners, GT350 phasers, chains, guides, etc)
-New Boundary OPG and crank sprocket
-New GT350 oil pan and pump
-Gen3 intake manifold, IMRC locked
-ATI Super Damper

The local shop has driven it around for 200-300mi before handing it back to me to do the Lund base tune. I go through this:
-Idle logging goes fine
-stationary 1500rpm hold logging goes fine
-stationary 2500rpm hold logging goes fine
-stationary 3500rpm hold logging goes fine
-driving 2500-5000rpm slow climb and then letting off, the idle gets super rough and throws a P0365 and P0369 error code. If i turn off the car and back on, the idle is normal again.

P0365 Camshaft Position Sensor "B" Circuit (Bank 1)
P0369 Camshaft Position Sensor “B” Circuit Intermittent Bank 1

i tried it once more and again… it seems like at 5000rpm during the deceleration, it throws the codes so seems easily replicable.

Joe Irwin from FFRE called me to throw in some input and verified a few things with me:
-There’s no concerning knocking/tapping/slapping sounds going on
-Oil pressure at least from my in-cabin gauges seemed fine
-No backfiring as I’m seeing this issue during the deceleration
-Compression numbers seem consistent bank to bank (180-195 across the board)
-Mentioned that it wouldn’t hurt to replace the VCT solenoids but it’s unlikely the issue if there’s no noticeable sounds happening

My local shop has tried to replace that camshaft position sensor, checked the wiring and plugs in the general area but issue still happens. They did find some area along the harness that was burnt though which they said they tried to repair but still, no luck yet.

I have an early Gen2 Mustang so obtaining another harness seems a bit harder as it’s on back order from Ford so i may be down a few more months if I’m waiting for a brand new harness.

This seems very similar if not the same as what’s going on with others in this thread right? Mine is just on the passenger exhaust bank. Just going through as much as I could to narrow it down by mechanical or electrical issue.
I also have a 2015 GT and am facing this identical issue except mine is on the intake side so I'm getting P0340 and P0344 codes. So far I've replaced the cam position sensor and alternator, checked all wires and harnesses a million times, changed oil. Still no luck.

Next steps are replacing the Cam Phaser and Cam Sensor Solenoid. Parts arrive next week. Really hoping that fixes it.

I did find two helpful videos on youtube about these types of issues. From my research, it can be caused by three broad categories. Faulty wiring, poor oil pressure, or mechanical failure.

Coyote Cam Phasers, how they work. (youtube.com)

PLEASE keep us up to date with your findings.

The cam chain tensioners are oil pressure actuated.
I figured that but bank 2 tensioner was easily pressed into its body by thumb pressure and sounded like air escaping as it was compressed repeatedly. Bank 1 tensioner never moved so I'm hoping a duff tensioner cause if it's an oil feed issue then i assume that'd be really really bad and expensive 😔

Sounds like a bad check valve in the tensioner. But I have never had one apart so.........

You aligned the cams in a unfavorable manner.

Runs good, but if it sits for more than 20-or 30 minutes, it smokes on start up. It clears up, but its a big cloud of smoke. I'll try and get video of it at lunch and I'll post a link.
Dvideo of the start up with the smoke coming out of the rear exhaust?

Wow, sorry to hear of your bad luck. Did you finally fix it?
