Buy some spark plugs, put em in yer glovebox and run 30% nitromethane. That'll bring the excitement back.

I concur and I have 3.73s in my Gen. 3. We either need that Gen. 1 & 2 MT82 gearing in our D4s or a rear gear to make these cars get out of their own way. There are two things that make me hesitant to put in a rear gear.

- I donā€™t want to have to shift into 5th in the 1/4, because I only have 1-2 & 3-4 billet shift forks and Iā€™m afraid of breaking the cast 5-6 forks.

- The best gear swap for NA might not be optimal for use with nitrous.

ā€¦no track times. Iā€™ve only done NA/gear swaps in my previous genā€™s. My experience and recommendations come from the many combinations Iā€™ve had throughout years. My current car is a 24 GTPP which has 3.73 gears (stock tune of course) and ā€œseat of the pantsā€ feels so much better than my other 18+ manuals. My ā€˜21 & 22 Mach 1ā€™s felt faster (3.73 & bettter trans gearing) than my e85 tuned NA 22GT. Obviously a boosted car is faster. But thats not an option for the OP. My point is: the torque suffers with the gearing even with the added top end. Would a VMP ODIN hit a little harder, yes (had one on my 22A10) but it would still lack down low with those gears.
This!

The gearing in the MT-82 D4 trans in our 2018 models leaves a lot to be desired for performance driving. I've spent my mods budget for the year, but I'm looking to go to 4.09:1 rear gearing to help out 3rd and 4th gears on the track (closed road course).

I put together this spreadsheet to play around with gearing and ratios and compare to the previous generation MT-82 trans as well as the Tremec's in the newer models.

Now, the spreadsheet isn't perfect by any means, but it does help me to see that if I go with a 4.09:1 rear diff, my 3rd and 4th gears will be better setup for my track days.

I plan to do the same along with swapping the stock limited slip for a torsen or OS Giken unit while I'm in there. The FP tune allows up to 4.09. I've heard a D4 with 4.09 gears is similar to a 15-17 car with 3.55 gears. Big improvement in low end feel.

I would ask myself how much do I daily my car compared to tracking or nitrous runs. I wouldnā€™t worry about 5th going out because you wonā€™t be in it very long. But thatā€™s just me.

Makes sense, but Iā€™m thinking a quick shift to 5th too quickly (in pursuit of the best et and mph possible) might result in broken shift forks. If I were to put a gear in, Iā€™m thinking a 4.88 to get the maximum benefit from it.

From what Iā€™ve seen, the shift fork issues were with lower gears but you may know more. I agree on more aggressive gear considering youā€™re 3.73 already. I would go for it.

Says the guy with n4g. Op doesn't need car mods, he needs to repaint to n4g, or at least put some shocking colored stripes on. 20 hp and excitement will surely result.

?? Wow Mattā€¦. past your bedtime my friend. One of the reasons I very rarely post because thereā€™s a lot of idiots on here now.
Now I'm confused. You made the crack about going rice...

I was complementing you on the color. N4g is the antithesis of bored.

I would definitely go for the lower gearing, dropping to the 4.09's would be a great upgrade.
I went from a 2020 GT with PP1 that had the 3.73's to a 2013 Boss 302, with 3.73 but the MT82 was definitely geared much lower. The Boss is definitely faster than the 2020 GT, as well more fun to drive cause of the tighter gearing.
Do miss the brakes on the 2020 GT. Guess I'll have to upgrade those.

OP unfortunately you will get used to 850 HP too. I get you my car feels like a turd but when I take it to a track I smile at the time slips.
