To wing or not to wing

I say wing it. The GT350/GT500/Mach1 “Swing” is probably the best looking OEM spoiler Ford has made IMO. I’d put the R wing second followed by the CFTP wing then the 2018+ PP1 spoiler.

It was at Track Attack that I noticed the big loss in the rear view mirror. I tend not to use the side mirrors much on the track.
But true, on the street, the side view mirrors would easily compensate for any loss of visibility.

I’m gonna wing it. All these winged cars are making me have wing envy.

I was happy winging it, keep in mind, mine is not gt, it was an EcoBoost. but I was very happy with the appearance of it. got compliments everywhere. (I sold this car)

Are you sure it makes that much? I would think a splitter in front of the wheels would create quite a bit more than the hood does on top of the wheels…?

I have in my notes that the GT350 Swing w/ gurney makes 238 lbs at 120 mph. A Racelouvers hood vent makes 68 lbs at 120 mph. That GT500 hood vent probably makes a little less.

That’s a lot closer to my thinking… do you know where these notes came from or is this info you’ve gathered throughout the years? I have a similar list that I certainly couldn’t cite where the info came from…

IIRC, the swing/gurney makes more DF than the R-wing as well. But basically non-existent at the speeds most folks operate their cars.

Gathered over the years. Started planning out downforce numbers front & rear to add aero to the car but I need coilovers first to handle the extra load.

The Swing numbers came from Ford and Racelouvers has wind tunnel data for all their products on their website.

That sounds familiar.
The R wing and the Swing are both very draggy though. Horrible Lift-to-Drag ratios.
They make decent downforce at lower speeds (great for autocross) but they create too much drag at track speeds.

How I see it:
Any spoiler - for looks or low speed grip
Wings - for high speed grip

the no wing look is clean and if my car was any color other than gray I’d keep it, but the gray needs a little extra pop and I don’t like stripes
