Most likely a "catch" cable. It holds the on to the vent in case it comes loose from the hood.
I think they are there in case of an accident in which the hood is designed to crumple causing the Vents to become dislodged. Notice those Ridges to the left of the vent? Those are where the hood is designed to crumple. This way it prevents them from flying off in an accident, causing further damage or injury.

 very well explained, makes sense to me...

still i wonder if These Things are Show only. they look good, no question
but as the euro spec v8 does not get them and Ford execs say the euro-spec-cars have specially been tuned for our extreme high Speed Levels, ...

They're not show-only, but their utility is relatively marginal. They do not, however, meet EU pedestrian-impact requirements (same reason the GT350 will never be offered in the EU).

Question about the GT hood vents. I see 2 wires going to them under the insulation. Are they functional in some way? I think I saw a post saying they were but what are the wires for...is there something that opens and closes by thermostat or some other mechanism?

Mainly I'm wondering because every time I wash the car or every time it rains some sort of pocket or something fills up inside there and the trapped water blows out on the windshield for a few minutes when you reach speeds of about 55 to 60 or so.

No big deal ...just wondering if there is a way to prevent that.
Thanks

BC... you gotta get yourself an air compressor (even if it's a small one) if you are washing your own car. That's like the best thing about doing it yourself... is blowing all the water out of the holes to a degree that the actual Car Wash places never do too well!

And now that I gave you that thought... welcome to the world of detailing haha... no but seriously.. I wouldn't even wash my own car without a compressor.

Enjoy the ride... mine comes in less than a month... cant wait to detail her

So I guess every bit of trim will now have to have a retention wire to keep it from flying off and killing, what, a sparrow? Will those wires also have to have wires to keep the wires from flying off and garroting a passing squirrel?

 Or possibly an opossum? I bet its for the baby opossum that frequents the side of roads.

I have never actually seen an opossum except in photos.

They're everywhere on the roads in Indiana. Some are larger than a small dog or cat. Could cause some serious damage if you hit it while doing an average speed.

Almost all of the detailers here in Tampa use Leaf Blowers. After washing they go over all of the panel gaps and anywhere water accumulates with the blower and a microfiber towel after drying it with a chamois.
