Funny thing about my situation was I had C7 Grand Sport and before that a C7 stingray and before that I had a few 5th and 6th Gen Camaro's.

I had never even sat in a modern Mustang or considered one (my family worked for GM so I always got the GM discount...).

Just by accident, on vacation I go to pick up my rental and they out of the blue asked me if I wanted a sports car, I did and they gave me a Mustang GT. I could not believe how comfortable it was to get in/out of and drive. It was a blast to just get in and drive.

When I got home, I sold the Grand Sport and bought a 22 GT (which had issues and Ford bought it back and I got my Mach 1).

Funny how things work.
WOW you got the 4th out of the 2023s! NICE!

Am I crazy? Looked at the Dark Horse. What a price increase for not much of an upgrade. Mach 1 was my first new sports car. (Had a 1972 Vette 10yrs ago). Did not consider the C-8 because of ease of entry and onboard storage issues. I love the Mach after 18 months and 8000 wonderful miles, but I am feeling the itch. Not much time for me to enjoy crazy wild cars in my life.

I have felt the itch myself over the years so I can relate. I went from an 18 Mustang GT PP to a 20 Dodge Charger Scat Pack to a 22 Tacoma 4x4 TRD and then, after realizing I was a fool for not keeping my Mustang, I bought a lightly used 6 spd 21 Mach 1... I drive my wife bonkers. Recently I've been eyeing the 24 Dark Horse. Big time thinking about it to the point that I hide my computer when my wife enters the room... But, from my viewpoint, the DH is basically a M1 but with 20 more HP. For about $64k before ADM. Annnnndd the new look of the DH is not great in my opinion. So today I took my M1 for a spirited drive and was reminded of how effing fortunate I am to own one. Rowing the gears, the coyote howl, the magnaride, the dash design... perfect... This all being said; re the corvette... I know someone who owns one. It checks all the boxes for this person. But side by side I am glad I've got the M1 and would not trade it for a corvette or DH.

That is neither an M1 or a Vette.

This hits home. My GF said no cars until 2025. Even said I can't look or read about cars.

Found a base C-8 with the exhaust option 60 miles away, called and It was sold. MSRP $71,190. Right color too, red. They said I could order another one. Found another base 200 miles away and I am waiting to hear back from the dealer. $67,895, wrong color black. It's a rainy day here so I'm going to drive a C-8 and spec out an order on a short cab/bed F-150 with the FP700. Shared the idea with the wife over dinner. Went over like a fart in a spacesuit. Oh, will ask if they would consider MSRP on the Dark Horse LOL.

The shop that works on my cars has alluded to Corvettes, in general, having a good price/performance ratio.
They work on a lot of Subarus owned by posers but also Miatas, Mustangs, and Corvettes owned by track hounds.

Whenever I've asked about Corvette quality, the head mechanic was prone to say
"it's GM, so it's a piece of 💩" and "you should get one" in adjacent sentences. 😄

From his point of view (and evidence he pointed out on a car) the suspension has a lot of potential and C5 and later frames are nearly idiot-proof, while the interior is flimsy and would come loose if you do anything but baby it (like most of the bluehairs that own one).

That was part of why I got a Mustang.
🤣 🤣 🤣

@ShadesOfBloo I literally couldn't breathe from laughing so hard by this. OMG just wonderful and soooo accurate. This hits home too as I have an uncle who is all into Corvettes and this is exactly what he looks like! Stereotypes are not cool... but this one happens to be a simple truth. 😂

Wife has good taste, keep her around! 🤣 She knows better.
Keep that mustang in the garage and do not scratch that corvette itch.

She’s your GF. You can do whatever you want. Wife? Not so much. Choose carefully. This has been a public service announcement and my valuable contribution for the day. :cwl:

My opinion is you should try driving a Mach 1.
I suspect part of the difference of opinion is a difference of nomenclature. It seems to me the other guy is looking at "top of the line" by numbers, whereas you were looking for the better "drivers' car".

You are correct. That was my point. The "best" anything is always a matter of opinion.

Then he should clarify “best driving car”, and that would be his opinion. Top line or “top of the line” refers to the highest performing model: e.g., GT500, ZL1, ZR1, Redeye, GT-R Nismo, Turbo S, Type R, Pista, SVJ, CS, V-Blackwing, etc. It’s common knowledge.

Luxury cars same thing, but the most luxurious package instead.

I don't think you are crazy, but it depends on what you want. The C8 is actually pretty large. I think it weighs pretty close to the same as a Mustang even though it's all aluminum and a 2 seater. So it has decent storage and I don't know whether ease of entry will be much different than a Mustang.

For my money I would prefer a C5 or C6(if you can stand the looks of the C6). Every generation has gained quite a bit of weight, but the C6 still has the sports car feel. I think the C5 Z06 drives really great, but to me the C7 drives more like a muscle car than a sports car. The C8 is a complete non-starter for me, because there's no manual transmission available.

I would definitely advise driving the car. To me a big factor is the engine characteristics. The pushrod V8s in Corvettes don't rev out like the Coyote, so to me they are less fun. Like I said, it depends on what you want.

My most recent purchase was a GR86, so you know my priorities are more with lightness. If I were trading my Mustang I would consider a Cayman, but not a Corvette.

Correct, I never said better, I said top of the line (which is what the other guy said also btw). GT500 is the top of line S550, it’s the highest trim with the highest performance (and highest price tag). Period. That’s not my opinion, that’s just a fact. You don’t even have to listen to me, Ford has said it as well. To say it’s not is factually incorrect.

Better is totally subjective as you state and some may feel that other trims are better based on their uses, wants, etc. I won’t debate anyone on that since we all have different tastes. If someone feels the M1 is better due to the fact you can get a manual, looks better or any other reason, that’s totally cool. And @Rael i do plan to drive one myself at some point as by all accounts it seems like a fantastic car and is one of the best looking Mustangs out there IMO.

I would reconsider whether the GF is a good influence in your life. Sounds like a problem to me. If she cares about you and wants you to be happy, she should realize that cars are important to you. If you don't care, that's another thing, but I wouldn't stay with someone that wanted to tell me I can't go out and buy a car. Whenever. I. Decide.

All the talk about Corvette which is gm who makes junk. Electronics never gm's strong suit. Like I said before don't let the door hit your Chevrolet ass on way out.

If I am going to spend that kind money, I rather save up for older Ford gt...
