…probably the only thing I would give up the Shelby for, I had a Gen1 Lightning back in the day 😎

NOW back to your regularly scheduled “boring” corvette thread 😂
Never heard of the FP 700 until now. Would solve my entry/exit issue. Also would do much better on these shitty SC roads. No need to borrow the wife's SUV to carry something. Looking into it now.

I wouldn't say crazy, everyone has their own opinion on cars and what they want. IF I was going to step into a C8 I feel like I'd need to really get more out of the car instead of just the base (my own personal preference) which would cost a lot more than the base car. Also curious, is this dealer you're looking at where the C8 located actually willing to sell the car for msrp? Most dealers are charging pretty insane mark ups on all of the C8's with the exception of a couple.

C8's have dropped in price - it's easy to get MSRP now and the used C8 market is becoming very buyer friendly. Supply has caught up with demand.

I would be surprised if you could find a base Corvette like that in stock anywhere and if you could I doubt you could actually buy it for that. But I’ve been wrong before.
Order from a high volume dealer and you'll have it in 3-4 months at msrp

I think it all boils down to primary use. My neighbor had a regular C8 and now has the Z-06 C8. I have driven both, the regular C8 on track too.
If this is going to be your "fun" car, track car, non-primary driver, by all means get the C8. Even in "base" form it's great on track.
If you need an all around car for daily or lots of go to store, run errands and such then I'd stay with the Mustang.
Both models of the C8 are boring in traffic, just feels monotone, you only have option of auto trans (paddle shift is no big deal, had that on my M3 for the past 10 years). If you have access to good mountain roads then I might lean toward C8, but I've driven my Mach 1 in the mountains a couple of times and it's really good at sub-limit corners too, it's just the dynamics are different.
The styling is your preference, I'm not keen on the C8 styling but to each his own.

I'm of the opinion they are both excellent cars for what they do. I think you need to decide what he primary usage is and then make your decision.

As a current owner of multiple Mustangs, Shelby's and Corvette's, I got a real laugh out of reading the comments here. The crazy devotees were the funniest. ALL manufacturers have some problems their products - always has been and always will be. Nothing wrong with favoring one over the other from a preferential/subjective perpspective, but ridiculous from a technical/manufactruring/objective perspective.

A very strong plus for even the base Corvette is their DCT transmission, and of course the mid-engine configuration, never mind the aluminum frame, and non-rusting body. Although the GT500 has a DCT, the street price difference between the two leaves the GT500 in a weak position. Never mind the ridiculously heavy weght of the GT500 - even over my 2019 GT350, which isn't light by any stretch of the imagination.

Being an advanced age car fanatic (as opposed to a hobbyist), and aerospace engineer, who has travelled the car world globally from shows, to races, to visiting events, manufacturers, and design houses from Detroit to the Italian car valley, and famous American car dealers such as Tasca Ford and Baldwin Chevrolet, it has been great. Plus spending a one-on-one week with John Fitch on a rare trip to Le Mans, one of the foremost talented sports cars drivers, was a once in a lifetime opportunity and educational experience. As a side note many are not aware that John invented/patented the yellow/sand filled safety barrels you see on the road/highway exits everywhere and waived any payment for their use. A very rare car guy to say the least.

I almost went the other way - looked at DH and GT PP to trade OUT of my C8. (im 38 and have two little kids). I miss having a stick and a usable (ish) back seat of my prior mustangs and Camaros. And of course, the old guy bias in corvette is real. I thought I had it bad in my C5 when I was in my 20s, it's at an entirely new level with this car.

That said, I cant justify the shift to a 2024. Just not enough car, if that makes sense? I'd go S550 Mach 1 or GT350. I had a line on a low mileage GT500 but another paddle shifted tremec doesnt seem to make sense...My wife wants to murder me because I'm in and out of cars so much.

oh..OP, dont go base. the car needs Z51. You're downgrading performance wise (and looks wise. the base C8 with no spoiler and splitter is awful).

here's my C8

Sounds like you need a 23 Mach 1 with a manual before you can’t find them new anymore. Trust me when I say you won’t regret it and especially with kids!

I have been looking for a reg cab short bed, 5.5ft. With the coyote. Can't configure it on the web, haven't thought of asking a dealer.
You cannot get a regular cab in 5.5ft bed, but, you can get it in the 6.5ft bed or 8ft. My dad currently has a regular cab short bed(6.5ft) 2wd with the 5.0. Fun truck stock, he can't get my mom on board of supercharging it as it scares her now. LOL

I'm looking!

I had 2 SS 1LEs before and a challenger scat pack. both cars were more 'fun' probably due to the stick and my kiddos 'fit'.

I had a GT PP back in the day...I preferred the 1LEs but the backseat of the camaro is more useless than the one in the Mustang.
