Greetings,

I spent the money and got the Recaro seats on my 2022 Mustang GT Premium. They cost $1,360.00 for the upgrade. The driver side seat is perfect. All the leather looks good. The passenger side seat had a 14" crease that ran from the front to the back by the door side. Noticeable, but the rest of the seat was fine. Under warranty Ford replace the passenger side seat and install a new one.

The new Recaro seat looks like an old catchers mitt. I wish I would have left well enough alone. I had to drop the car off for the day, and when I picked it up I really did not give it a hard look until I got home. I am really bummed out about the looks of the replacement seat. It is way worse than the original. Am I over reacting and just being too picky? What would you all do? I am storing the car for the winter next week. Should I wait until next Spring and see if Ford will replace the seat again?

Let me have it and pull no punches. Please see the attached photos.

Thanks, Edgemere

I know damping the leather and then using a blow dryer will cause the leather to tighten up. It would bother me as well

Given that the driver's seat looks perfect, I would say there's obviously a quality flaw in the passenger seat. For the upgrade cost you paid, and knowing what the quality should be (driver's seat as a benchmark), I would definitely have no problem having the passenger seat reworked to the driver seat's level of quality.

What I see in your photos will not smooth out and resolve the issue itself over time. It appears to be operator error, whether in the seaming process, or defective material used, resulting in the issue you have.

If you don't like it, then go back to the dealership and complaint it now. If you wait till next Spring, you will give the dealership more excuses not doing anything.

I 100% guarantee you a replacement will not look any different than what you have right now. This is not a material problem. I have replaced countless seat leathers (not on mustangs, but shouldn’t matter) and this is what they look like. Sometimes it’s more noticeable than others. I have never tried (ie: warranty doesn’t pay for) steaming the leather, but some people have said it works wonders. Not sure how long ago it was replaced, but a few days in the sun and actually using it may also work it in.

They replaced the seat? Or the seat cover?

People that buy ford's "leather", and then complain that they wrinkle or wear.

What'd you expect?

It’s mostly an installation issue and the fact that replacement cover are packaged and folded in a box
Should get better with a bit of time but the installation look very poor
Go talk to an upholsterer and ask him his opinion

I'd try hitting it with a steamer first, and see if it tightens up. Looks to me like they attempted to re-cover your original seat, unless you have some way to prove that the entire seat was actually replaced.

Or, just put it away for the winter, and next spring get some Katzkin covers installed. Real leather, any color and pattern you can come up with, and will personalize the interior

That is totally unacceptable…..Is there things you could try to make it look better….yes, but you paid for new seats.

Yes, you are overreacting. Looks fine. Just sit in it and it will crease even more.

I agree with others, but I do think some steam will relax it and allow it to tighten up.
I think a new cover from the dealer will have similar issues, since it will also be fresh out of a box.

But remember, all, the OP's driver's seat looks "perfect". Why shouldn't he expect the passenger seat to look like/match the driver's seat? He paid a $1,360 premium to get one good seat and one ugly seat???? I don't think so. Before trying any tricks and having the dealer say...you ruined the seat and voided the warranty, I'd go back to the dealer for resolution. Let's give the dealer a chance to work with him and with Ford to make things right before he tries something that prompts a claim denial.
