I know im constantly hearing about the coyote,s blowing up because the pcv is inadequate.
Not blowing up but oil/gunk buildup robs performance. No one is forcing you to run anything. To many $100-110 is worth the piece of mind.

Blow up sounds a bit excessive, in the end it's oil not acid. I would say those blown up engines had other factors which actually caused the failure. Coyotes have been nothing but solid from all I have researched and read, specially these new ones.

Just the passenger side or both?
They sell both, but from what I've read, the passenger side is where the vast majority of the oil comes from. The driver side doesn't push as much oil through, so probably less of a concern. It must have something to do with where the connector is located and thus one side has a bigger issue than the other.

I wqs just replying to the post saying I said blow up, which I never said. I said protect a $6000 engine. I'll spend the $100. It's not collecting oil from the sky after all.

Stu, that's my fault. I quoted your response rather than Tommys. [emoji58]

No prob. Of course the engine won't blow up nor do I believe that one bit. But there's a reason it's such a talked about mod and why it collects oil obviously.

I already have my Bob's sitting in a box ready to go in when the car comes home next week (along with my DD interior LED upgrade).

Showing you have oil in the bottom of a catch can isn't data supporting any benefit to performance, at least it's not unless you have data saying that amount of oil is causing a problem in the system....so yea "real data"

Trkn8r...from what i've seen through researching online. the drivers side doesn't really have this "issue" some oil gets by but it barely collects any

and another simpler way to get it to drain back in would be to apply the same check valve at the bottom of whatever tube you use. Then install a petcock at the can and just open it up every once and a while.
Thanks for the reply. I wish that I understood the dynamics of that...i.e. That the driverside doesn't seem to collect as much oil as the passenger side. I do however remember a post from this forum related to the FRPP lopy idle tune, and Ford put out a service bullitin to address the issue which recomended a catch can for the passenger side.

I'm going out on a limb here but...I guess the lopy idle tune makes the motor run rich, at idle, and thats why it's bad for your cats...correct? So it would make sense that the addition of more oil in the mixture would only make things worse...yes? Interesting! I think I'll get one just for the heck of it. I can really see how it would hurt.

Yea I'm probably going to get one as well. I'm just not buying into the hype that's it's an absolute must have, especially starting from mile 0. I plan to keep my car over 100k miles, so I'm sure it will benefit me some. I would just like to see some actual data supporting any benefit I might be getting. Ya know other than a feel good from keeping oil out of the intake. After all this is a port injected engine and if you always run premium you should easily keep you intake valves clean. Anyone have pictures of a motor with higher mileage that never used a can and one that has?

I have a 2014 Mustang GT with FRPP Trackey tune. On early tune revisions pinging was noted by customers who called FRPP to inquire. The answer back was that the cars not running the oil separator were singing due to the oil coming into the fuel/air mixture. I assume this must have been reducing the octane level of the overall mixture fuel/air. Those of us...myself included, that added an oil separator had the pinging issue go away.

I know a guy that was talking to Ford engineers at SEMA in November, and he asked what the Number 1 thing he could do to enhance his stock Mustang would be. The answer: an oil separator.

The reasons being fuel dilution and eventual deposits on the exhaust valves from the burnt oil. I have one on my '09 and it's sort of amazing what it collects.

What happens if you forget to drain the can, does it continue to flow thru or clog up & cause problems-->

Wouldn't a fuel injection cleaner like Chevron Techron deal with this issue ?

I won't forget but I am curious if that little can will fill before a normal oil change cycle.
It sounds like it will, probably one of the main reasons Ford won't put one on from the factory.
