Steeda's review of the S650 mentions several times that the active exhaust adds 6hp. Has there ever been a claim for the S550 to have added HP from the active exhaust?

6 hp is not a lot of power difference and honestly is more likely that the ambient conditions changed, which resulted in difference results :like:

Steeda hasn't had a car on the dyno. This information is coming from Ford. I seriously doubt Ford is advertising additional horsepower based on ambient conditions....

No, but I don't think we fully know exactly what is different with the new exhaust. Could be the new mufflers are a bit more restrictive and opening them up through the valve helps with that and actually adds power.

If it came from Ford its definitely embellished! But again, 6 hp can seriously change on minor temperature differences, better gasoline, which dyno was used. A lot of people would agree with me here that it's more than likely just a marketing ploy to get people to buy it. Not to mention the weight added form the active exhaust probably offsets any power gain it makes anyway. :)

Chevy claims 5 hp with the NPP exhaust on the corvette since the C6 i think. 6 hp seems reasonable

I'm fully aware of the intricacies of dyno testing, but I don't think Ford ran the car over to the tuners dyno down the street. I would have assume that this alleged 6 horsepower increase was calculated by engineers prior to verification on the dyno. I'm sure they have controlled environments and such for dyno testing that most of us will never have access to. I also understand that 6hp isn't much and agree that you would never be able to verify that claim on your local tuners dyno. I posted this because I find it interesting that they are making that claim, but hadn't in the past. I'm interested in the background of what changed with the engine/calibration/exhaust for them to now advertise this change. I'm not trying to unlock the secret 6 horsepower, but the more you know....

I'm an automotive engineer myself and work closely on occasion with the lead engineer for the coyote platform. I'll send a message over to him and see what he says:thumbsup:

I heard back from my engineering buddy, unfortunately he told me he has no idea about the added exhaust adding horsepower :(

The 6hp was ALWAYS there. They use that as marketing to get you to spring for the extra $1225.
You can always underrate it is when you overrate HP you get into a problem.

Maybe… but why wait until now to market it? Perhaps I look at things different, but the 6hp would not be a deciding factor for active exhaust for me, and I just don’t believe it will be for the majority of people considering it.

My bet is they all have 486 hp but the non active exhaust is restrictive enough to lose those 6 hp. Nobody is going to notice the difference except those who think if it's making more noise then it must be making more power.

Probably because you’d be going from dual tip to quad tip with the active exhaust in S650. Dual tip might be a tad more restrictive so the quad tip with the active option “frees up” 6 hp? That’s the only thing I can think of other than marketing for the extra $$$. Either way it’s not something anyone will notice other than the sound
