Progress?
I don't call putting every control/setting of a vehicle into one unit that if it fails you are sol. progress.
I don't call, a system that after the oem doesn't support it, you are sol. and can't swap it out.
but ymmv
You might not call it that and that’s ok. That’s why they’re called “opinions” lol. And you can absolutely swap out the entire sync system. So I still don’t know what you’re on about.

Wow! And I wonder why I love the 80s and 90s where you can do your own fucking stereo. The work that goes into these cars to do this is ridiculous.
Agreed. I got a quote for middle of the road Audio Dynamics speakers to replace all the factory, plus an AD 12” box with sub, 2 AD amps and a Metra AXDSPX to run it all. 7 hrs install. Total out the door was $5700. Yikes! Makes me realize how much I enjoy the coyote rumble. I may still do something but almost 6 grand is a lot of cheddar for a stereo for a drivers car.

You’re paying for labor. Parts aren’t expensive, people’s time is.

Post a link to another brand system you can swap out that isn't fords, and still have all the other functions in the infotainment unit and vehicle that run though it.

idatalink RR, idatalink MFT1 (for 8 inch radios) or idatalink MUS2 (for 4 inch radios) and a headunit of your choice....
Keeps factory HVAC controls, put HVAC controls into idatalink enabled radios and stuff.
Expensive? Yes, but retains all factory functions.

That is an adapter, not a head unit.
Who makes a aftermarket headunit/ infotainment unit that all the oem features are still useable and found on the unit screen?
Sure I can add a head unit that play music and maybe control half of the features the vehicle came with that the factory infortainment system controlled.
This is the bad part of stuffing everything into one control unit.

The integration devices can be used with Kenwood, Sony, Alpine, Pioneer and enable these radios to provide the same functionality as the stock radio and even more.

I already replied to you with that answer, Dynavin.
As Cathul said, there’s plenty of options to integrate aftermarket into our cars or to build upon the existing setup. There’s really no need to remove the stock 8” screen when you have the Maestro or PAC Audio integration systems.

Mounted mine in the spare tire area. Installed carpeted wood so I still have functionality while I travel to and from work

I installed the Linkswell T-Style in mine. Everything works as original. Only works for base model mustang. Won’t work if you have toggle switches below radio

Back to the original topic for a minute. I noticed in many of the photos you all shared, the Power and Ground were touching or nearly touching in places. Have you had any issues with this? I was under the impression that this was a big no-no. This looks to be the easiest way for me to wire my distribution blocks and have the routing somewhat clean.

Also, any tips on where to run wire directly from the amp to my rear-fill deck speakers? I want to be able to open the seat back fully, so I can't run it straight vertical.

You can route power and ground together as the PVC jacket on each cable will prevent any arcing. When you terminate them at a junction or fuse block make sure you don’t have any stray wires poking out of the terminal end. It’s RCAs that you want to avoid running along power wires. However if they do come cross each other, as they often do, run your RCAs perpendicular to the power wire. Also, a good set of twisted pair RCAs are a must. Don’t cheap out on wiring. Poor cables will make an awesome system sound like garbage.

In addition to that use a proper ferrule for the gauge of power wire you are using. They help keep all the strands together and compress them when you crank down on the power terminal screws.
