Maybe a dumb question but I actually faced this issue. So, the engine turns off if I press start button while the car is driving. Then to start engine back I have to stop the car, move transmission to parking, press brakes and press start button. This procedure looks pretty unsafe to me considering real conditions.
Interesting if there are any options to start engine back without stopping the car. By the way, with manual transmission and mechanical key you can do it pretty easy - just disengage the clutch.

did you try slapping the shifter into N and re-hitting the start button?

PS this is also why I despise the removal of actual keys. Just how lazy does humanity have to get?

You actually pushed the start/stop button while driving and it turned off? I thought that a quick push did nothing but give a dash warning. I thought you had to push and hold the button for an emergency shut off.
No idea on restarting while moving but I am curious now.

Yes, in this case the car displays message “press brakes to start engine”, the same as if I get into the car in parking mode. But after I press brakes it shows something like “transmission not in park mode”.
Actually if you (meaning anyone) get into this situation and don’t know what to do from experience, it will take a lot of efforts to keep calm and don’t panic :)

Yes, it was short time push. Probably it worked because car speed was low (about 5km/h)

But, why, why would you do this?
If the car stalled, most people will pull off to the side, and restart it.
It isn't like the old days that engine stalled and you lost power steering/brakes.
So why, what is the goal here?

He has an obnoxious exhaust. His gf is grounded or has a father with shotgun. He rolls down street kills engine. She sneaks out of the house, jumps into rolling car and he relights the engine for a clean getaway without telltale taillights. And has some nookie for a few hours before the sheriff spots them and gives chase.

Isn't this how mustang owners spend their nights? I saw it on a Broadway show once .

Related: the C8 corvette won’t let you open the door until the car is at zero mph. Which is way more annoying than you would initially imagine.

Maybe spring for that active exhaust and put it in quiet mode.

Little Sister by the record machine
A tiny dancer such a sweet sixteen
She's goin' out she's gonna party tonight
She's gonna shake and make it last all night
Little brother's got a drivin' machine
A fast driver such a clean machine
They're going out they're gonna put out the lights
They gonna rock it rock it rock it
You can still rock in America
Ah yeah s'alright
You can still rock in America
Ah yeah all night
You can still rock in America
Little sister makes a move for the door
The door squeaks she's on the second floor
Her daddy wakes "Is everything OK?"
Not a sound as she makes her getaway
Little brother's got it ready to roll
Tires burning as they head for the show
Light it up and turn the music up loud
And Rock it rock it rock it
You can still rock in America
Ah yeah s'alright
You can still rock in America
Ah yeah all night
You can still rock in America
Rock In America (you can still)
Rock In America (rock in America)
Rock In America (Yeah you can still)
Rock In America

We rented a new chevy on vacation. It will not start till everyone's seat belt is buckled.
Anyone remember the cluster this caused in like 1973-74 when the system didn't work correctly.
Thank god you could shut it off in the cars menu setting screen.
I wear mine but we had a suitcase on a seat and the car would not start.
Nothing like being at an airport pick up /arrivals after getting the rental, load it up and go to start it and nothing. And the local airport police asking what is the problem, then the tsa baggage check guys to also come over, then a airport police cruiser.
Great way to start a vacation. I'll never get that hour of my life back.

If the stop button is pressed while driving the electric steering keeps working. While coasting put it in N and push the start button and your back in business.
I had just pulled out of the driveway doing about 20mph, no traffic. Was changing the left cabin temperature and another finger touched the stop button and it turned into a test drive !
You would think the start / stop button would be disabled while in gear? IDK

I’ve almost done that a few times in that same situation. Even thought about one of those switch covers for the start button

This is how it's always been with automatics. You don't need to be in P, but you have to have the brake pedal pressed.

Why do you think it's unsafe? What would be safer in your opinion?

Why in the world would you have the need to "turn off" the vehicle while driving????

Is this some type of dumb way of saving gas - hypermiler?

You know, you could fix this problem very easily by going and trading it in for a manual transmission 😂😂

i love my "millennial anti-theft device" in my center console!! (I'm a millennial myself 😂)
