I like the "go visit mom" idea.

You know this is fraud, right?
we used to do that all the time on older vehicles to reduce the taxes. and fuck 'em for it. taxes got paid on it when it was bought new. them wanting more taxes every time it changes hand is double dipping.

AMERICAN GREED indeed! What you’re saying makes perfectly good sense (taxes were already paid once on the new vehicle when it was first bought). Nowadays, it’s not just double dipping, it‘s triple and quadruple dipping+.

I can’t resist the urge to inject a little humor here. Back in the 80’s, there was an R&B group called The Fatback Band and they released a song called: Money (gotta get my hands on some). I swear they must have written that song for our government, as well as all other greedy people in the world.

@FreePenguin, does your spouse show an interest in riding motorcycles? If so, maybe consider keeping the 883 for her and she can ride along side you, instead of on the back of the new SuzI, unless she already has her own scoot. There wouldn’t be any further risk of getting scammed if you went that route.

Why don't you go to to your bank and ask if there are any issues with a wire transfer? Setup a separate account, have him wire to that account. Move the money to your normal account. Close the other account. No issues. You are overthinkinking this. Wire transfers for A LOT more than this are done everyday.
My bank told me theres zero concern for worry. They had me make a new bank account, they said if the bike wouldnt be picked up for 2 weeks, you can settle funds and transfer to main and never worry again. she said there is literally zero they can do once you transfer out. even if they cried fraud etc, its out of the persons hands as they willingly submitted money out.

so if he is serious, I made the new checking account, and will let him send me money. its on market til then, got a few people coming this week (today too) to look at it.

Getting tons of traction though. LOTS of messages

shes terrified. she claimed she wanted to learn, but she is more interested in like a little 400cc sportbike. I told her I will pay for the motorcycle safety course and do it with her, (ive already done them) but it would be fun to go and do it again w her. they provide all the bikes and such. to see if she really has any interest.

She sat up on harley and just wasn't feeling it though. not sure where exactly she feels on stuff.

I recently sold my 1969 Harley sight unseen to a buyer in CA. He answered my Boston ad on CL and I was skeptical at first. We talked on the phone at length about the money transfer and shipping. I later found out through friends he’s a buyer/seller so that eased my mind. He sent me a bank certified check drawn on Chase bank with all his information on where to send the title whenever I felt comfortable with the check clearing, I have a CC with Chase so I went there and cashed the check & deposited cash in my bank. The buyer paid for and arranged for shipping and a truck showed up at my house. Thank you very much and I haven’t heard a word since and that was late January. Good luck

Bikes sold. Gave me 500 deposit and showing back up in morning with the 4100 remaining and we signing everything over

lol I put him on the back andwe rode around, he had a blast. people laughed at two grown men riding a little sporty but who cares.

he said this is his dream bike. Super nice guy

the Florida guy is on phone telling me he wants to send money etc.. I said wait til tomorrow and I will let him know

if guy doesn’t come through then I’d let him have a crack. But it’s gone. He left smiles grinning ear to ear

would do everything tonight. But banks, notaries, and dmv all closed

still going to feel like crap tomorrow telling him its sold, ): he said his gf etc is so excited and eh wants to lock it down. I said call me tomorrow to talk about it. it would of been her first bike. im a sap and I like the buyers to be happy, not sad. but I wasn't comfortable with shipping anyway in first place. Nigerian scam stuff has me worried about any long distance transaction unless its with a dealership type deal.

but blows my mind people would pay a top penny for my bike, shipping, etc. Id imagine you could get a better bike for the cost of my bike + shipping on it.

but dat der grabber blue for ya! grabbing hearts. bur really its a beautiful bike. basically brand new, I had everything redone on it when I got it.

All the advice was way out of hand. It’s a simple bike sale. Wire transfer, paypal, cash, whatever. Fill out a bill of sale, sign the title, leave the date and sale price off and move on. It’s common and it’s not fraud. It’s not that complicated. Congrats on your sale.

I'm looking at buying a car (or two) that are well beyond a day's drive and was going to start a thread on the best way to go about it; the situation is largely the same though, just a significantly larger amount of money involved.

Any pointers are welcome.

Better safe than sorry.

i just wanted to be sure. It sounded sketchy someone paying full value plus shipping etc vs shopping locally

I do believe he was real but I have local buyer who wanted it so it’s in my best interest to do that

But I don’t have deeper pockets so my thinking was just it seemed strange but seems quite normal

Pics are hard to go by. I drove from Chicago to SE Kentucky for a truck once, everything was misrepresented. I was there 2 minutes, saw many major problems, and left. I'd never buy without seeing it in person. I saved my ass that time.
