3/36 is almost up. Ford ESP or no?

Decision time regarding the Ford ESP is rapidly approaching. My car has 8675 miles currently. I drive it to and from work a few times a week in spring/summer/autumn and I try to get at least 6 or 8 track days a year out of it.

I have always been of the mind that an extended warranty is for suckers. But I am waffling on this particular car because of the costs associated with certain repairs and the high failure rate of certain components (e.g., AC).

PremiumCare 8/48 is $2600 at Flood/Anderson and $2550 at Granger
ExtraCare 8/48 is $1985 from Flood/Anderson and $1935 at Granger.

If I buy the warranty it will be for the extra years of coverage and not the mileage. I will likely never reach 48000 miles in this car within 8 years, but track miles are obviously harder on the vehicle than commuter miles.

These cars do not have any of the "High tech" that the PremiumCare adds, but it is a bit annoying that ExtraCare excludes some relatively basic things like the rear suspension.

Also, I generally hate taking the car in to the dealership for any kind of warranty work unless it is a high cost item or one I cannot physically repair myself. I've made some repairs on this car already that could have been done at the dealership under warranty but they were all less than $300.

What do you guys think?

Yeah in his case he is past the 3/36 so it is a bit more complicated and expensive. I think if I was past the 3/36 I wouldn't even be considering it. But as it stands I think I am just going to do it. At the end of the day $2600 is like 1.5 track events so not that bad.

Do you think the PremiumCare is worth it vs some of the other options?

Also, can anyone who has purchased from Granger enlighten me as to how the actual purchase works? They just told me they would send me an invoice and I could pay with my credit card.

My issue is that I get 5% back on online purchases, and so obviously I will get that from Anderson or Flood if I buy via the website. But if the Granger process is not via a website then it doesn't make sense for me even with the $50 discount.

When I decided to go for it she sent an invoice, which was an email from elavon.com that contained a link to a website that allowed me to enter my credit card information (typical online payment format). After payment I got an email from Granger confirming my order and a copy of the ESP contract. Smooth transaction. Brooke even helped me to apply my Fordpass points making it an even sweeter deal.

My thinking exactly
The most expensive failure being the engine or other power train components it would be a waste of money for the next 2 years to have it covered under the extended warranty instead of the original one
Wait until just before the 5/60 expiration to make a decision
Do that make sense ?

Then you have to buy a used vehicle ESP at a higher price.

And if you don't want to pay up front, you can do 24 monthly payments at 0% interest after 10% down.

Granger did a quote for me last month. I was told they only will do the PremiumCare level at that time. I still have about 13 months for my 3/36 to expire.

Thanks for the info. I decided to buy the ESP through Granger. Was ready to go yesterday but I double checked the contract and my address was listed wrong so hopefully that will get sorted today and I can make the purchase before I convince myself to not do it again....

Just as a data point, my ESP more than paid for itself when my transmission self-destructed and my alternator died last year. I looked up the retail and "discounted" cost of the parts alone (forget about labor), and both exceeded what I paid for the ESP. Very glad I ponied up for the ESP a couple years back. YMMV.

... also for consideration. Add the lighting package. One front LED headlight is $600 plus labour to install. I've seen OEM LED lights fail well before the advertised "50,000 hours". One issue with the sync electronics and the headunit display is $500 and receiver another $600. Add in a possible larger issue, for me the $2000 makes sense.

Of course whatever makes you sleep better at night.

So I'm not sure if anyone else bought their ESP from Granger Ford. However, when I checked on my Ford account recently I saw no sign of an ESP on my car. Instead I saw a service record for "air conditioning" from Granger on the day I bought my ESP. I contacted Granger and they assured me that my ESP was in fact active but that there is an issue with how they log the transaction with Ford, which results in it being logged as an AC repair. Anyone else encounter this?

Did you get any packet in the mail? You can go to any dealer and have them check in OASIS that it's active.

Nope, no packet in the mail or any correspondence from Ford other than the copy of my signed ESP contract via email. Brooke from Granger assures me that it is active but it does not hurt to double check. I will do so shortly.
