2020 oil life going down rapidly.

Anyone else have an issue with their oil life going down rapidly? I only have about 1760 miles on mine, I did the first oil change right around 600 miles. So I have about 1100 miles on this new oil and it was showing 26% oil life remaining. Being from chicago it’s sitting in my heated garage for a few months, so every week or so I start it up, let her run, roll her to a different spot on the tires, just to keep everything moving. After doing that a few times, oil life is down to 22%. I did some research, looked at that manual and I see it’s recommended every 3000-5000 miles with 3000 being the mark when it’s being tracked and really driven hard. To run through almost all of its oil life in 1100 miles isn’t adding up. I had a passing thought maybe the dealer messed up and put break in oil again. I plan on making a trip to Ponies in the Smokies down in Tennessee in March, about a 10 hour trip 1 way, at this rate I’d need to change my oil 3-4 times over the course of the trip.

Cause you start it once a week, let it idle for x amount of time, and shut it off. The more you know.

So is this some automated calculation that the system is doing based on miles AND time or is it reading the actual viscosity of my oil?

Perfect timing as I just did my first oil change (well the dealer did it as I wanted them to also note the Cam Tensioner Recall complete which I had already verified myself)

Anyway the car had 2,064 miles on it. No tracking and not much high revving driving. The dash came on stating "Oil Change Needed". Car is a 2020 that I bought used with 494 miles on it.

Interestingly the dealer put on a next oil change sticker at 9,464 (7,400 miles) from now. My plan is every 4-5K miles as mine is driven weekends year round.

Even if you don't drive it? Here its cold 6 month of the year. I changed the oil in the fall and spring time it told me to change the oil. Didn't put 1k on the oil.

even if you don't drive it. Im not saying the oil is bad, what I am saying is that your oil life monitor will tell you to do it in one year or whenever it calculates the oil life based upon the kind of driving you do.

I had some oil tested that sat for a long time. There was nothing wrong with it.

I swear the oil companies must have a deal with the software guys at Ford and SRT.
"Pssst . . . can you add some lines of code to get those guys to change the oil more often. These new synthetics are killing our sales numbers" lol

As a side note, I read an article recently that idling your engine is 3 times the amount of use you’d do when driving normally. I’ll see if I can find it but they recommended not starting your motor during winter storage. A fresh oil change before and after plus fuel stabilizer and a battery tender was all they said were needed with modern motors.

I don't see anywhere that the oil life was reset during your last oil change. If they didn't reset the monitor, it will keep dropping from where it was before the change. The % life monitor has to be reset manually.
