My 2017 GT350 is back at the dealer getting a few unrelated parts added on.

They checked the oil and based on current level compared to last change it's consuming around 1 quart/500 miles. May be a little bit less then that.

Car had engine replaced around 4k miles and is now at 26k so it's already on its second engine. Car runs perfect other then the oil burning quicker than I'd like. I've only put about 4k miles on myself and didn't start really monitoring oil levels till now so I'm not sure what previous consumption may have looked like. This car is a true joy to drive and I was very much planning to go the route of forced induction but am of course concerned with the possibility of it eating more and more oil quicker as time passes.

As most know Ford mentions 500/quart is normal for this performance vehicle but then I see people getting 1k miles or much higher per quart. Driving style is very spirited, gets pushed a few times almost every drive. No track days.

Anybody else with similar driving style at same consumption and have you continued to drive the car for a long period without it getting worse? My next plan when I get the car back tomorrow is to do 200 miles of non spirited easy driving and see how that changes things.

Regardless of what Ford say, that is way too much oil
Was the engine replaced for abnormal oil usage?
An engine can use oil ( its normal to use some oil) through leaks, rings, valves seals and pcv system
Only rings and pcv oil usage are related to rpm’s/ cylinders pressure
Do you have air/oil separators?
Did you check the intake track/tb for oil?

Yes that was the original cause of replacement. Oil separators is one of the parts I brought it in to have put on - so going forward it now has them.

I myself have not but will ask my mechanic to check those places for oil.

I always believe excessive oil consumption, is a large part based on improper engine break in.
My 2019, with 5500 miles, hasn't even used 1/2 qt in 4K miles between changes. And I have done some very spririted driving, and hit the redline a few times. But I followed a very strict break in process during the first 1K miles.

1 quart per 500 miles is way too much oil. I actually thought 1 quart per 500 was the line where Ford replaced the motor.

For Reference, mine gets tracked 50% of the time, and last oil change was a half quart at 2200 miles.

You do have a point
Rings need a lot of cylinders pressure to seal correctly

I also think due to you having the gen 2 motor...fron what I understand much less likely burn oil...mine burns no oil as well and I am very hard on my car

The OP stated this is already a replacement engine. It was replaced after 4K miles. And saying he's at 26K miles now, and only has put on 4K miles himself, implies he's not the original owner. So who knows how the previous owner treated the car. .

Good point, when new 1st 1k miles. Drove old school, varying the the RPM, never holding the speed.

Reading drive it like you stole it, not something considered very smart.

Shift @ 4k and above regularly, as I like the push in the power curve.

When was the replacement done? Just curious. Always a crap shoot with used

I’m sure that is was a brand new engine under warranty since the car only had 4000 miles at the time

I wasn't the one to break in the second engine and didn't know the previous owner either. Took a shot in the dark.

I didn't think you were, just agreeing with postal_ bob regarding break in.

Questioning the previous owners driving habit and break-in or lack of, is right minded .

Unfortunately, buying anything used, unless the owner is known is a shot in the dark 100% .

OK, with proper break-in miles, and I'm talking to those who use it mainly for tracking, high temps, high speed, are these Voodoo mills still relatively fragile compared to the Coyote? These oil consumption issues was why I shied away from a used GT-350. Power and sounds are awesome, but more expensive past warranty since hand-built motors. Thoughts?
