We measure boost 200rpm before the shift point. Throttle closure and TQ control can cause an artificial spike in boost at the shift. So if the car shifts at 7400 the max boost should be read at 7200.

Also these pulleys are the same for the gen 2 cars. I believe those rev 7-7200 stock. So our measurements should be pretty close for both gen 2 and 3. Obviously there can and will be variables depending on your setup that will change boost as well. We provide a very close estimate based on our testing and our own in house test vehicles.
I read aprox 7psi at 7200rpm

This is not necessarily true, accuracy or precision; analog can be more and vice versa. In this case the boost that is displayed is an inferred value, calculated from some other measurements that are not boost or vacuum. So it depends on the tune. Mine is usually pretty close, but I have seen some variance in the measured boost.
This sort of drives me nuts about Ford... the need to use an inferred value instead of a $0.80 map sensor. I mean I get it because you are adding up $0.80 for every coyote since 2011 but C'mon. It mostly drives me nuts because it makes it impossible to tune ITB's on an otherwise great factory ECU. This probably also aggravates DOZENS of other people lol.

Getting ready to pull the trigger on a kit. Trying to decide between the G2 w/upgraded intercooler or the G3 kit. I will be on pump gas for now so I wouldn't be maxing out the G2 but having the room to grow would be nice. The price is only $500 difference and i'm not getting the kit soley based on the price anyway, I just prefer this layout over the others. Anyone have input if running the G3 on low boost is worse in any way vs running the G2? Not really sure if the spool rates and all would be the same or if the G2 would build boost quicker.

Similar situation to you for my decision, I'm leaning towards the G3 on Pump, it seems to make more power and torque down low then the g2

Ive been really happy with my g2. If you're wanting a fun street car its perfect for that. If you're chasing numbers I'd consider the g3. Seems to have some pretty good potential based on Brad's recent posts. I'm likely sending mine in over the winter to have it updated to a g3. I run in a few local events and the car that won runs 9.7s@139. Im hoping the g3 with a few other things has me running that or a bit better.

Have you contacted them to see how much it is to upgrade the g2 to g3 spec. Its just the wheel and housing, if it isn't too bad maybe ill do g2 and then upgrade to g3 later if need be.

I went with g3 just in case I ever wanna do a complete fuel system and up the boost. Currently running on e30 with 7.5 psi pulley and trapped 143 with dragy on the street. Best 60-130 is 5.38.

It's actually the housing and tubing that needs to be changed. It's roughly 1000 bucks to upgrade with exchanging a G2 unit. If I remember correctly.

I was about set on the G2 kit w/ upgraded IC. Now this conversation calls into question if the only difference between head units is power potential. One comment mentioned more torque down low possibly with the G3 on modest boost. I'm curious what the power curve looks like with the G3 head unit and the 125mm/6.5 psi pulley as compared to the G2 with the same pulley. This may be ignorance on my part.

The G2 kit w/ upgraded IC is very comparable in cost to the G3 kit that includes the IC and both can be optioned with the 125mm/6.5 psi pulley. Is there a power justification to step up to the G3 kit for someone planning to run that boost level?

To me I think of it like this... if you're not going to reinforce the internals then why even bother with a blower just because it'll make more horsepower. I'll elaborate on that... from what I read on this forum before doing any upgrades a safe stock whp seems to be below 750. At this level the engine is still reliable and the clutch or auto trans should not need to be upgraded. A G2 is capable of going well past this. I'm currently not having any issues with the clutch but I'm on the stock tires so the tires go before the clutch gives. At least that's my theory. So if you are looking at a g3 ask yourself will I use what I'm paying more for? Someone with a g3 should throw up a dyno and we can take a look at the torque curves.

If the G2 and G3 are comparable to P1X and D1X then the smaller unit is said to have better low/mid range while the bigger stronger upper.

I highly highly doubt the g2 has better low end mid range than the g3 if so Id
Be super surprised.

I had to look through all the other posts to find 1 G3 dyno from another member here. They have a bullitt mustang and were on 7 psi and 93. My graph is for the G2 on a regular gen3 gt. 8.5 pulley. The two runs are 91 and e54. You can see its not much but a little more torque and power down low

That doesn’t tell me much way too many variables. Plus you’re running a smaller pulley. From 4000-up the g3 with a smaller pulley is outperforming the g2 by a decent margin. You can’t compare your e54 graph to 93 octane.
