I bought my two mustangs in Arkansas. I am moving to Illinois in February. Northern Illinois, specifically. Should I be concerned about my changing out my antifreeze and what not. I ask this because when I was in New Hampshire for a short time one of my coworkers had a car he bought down in Florida and he actually had his stuff freeze up and have issues in Berlin after a few days of -10 below temps.

Anyone have suggestions for rust prevention. I am going to be looking for a winter beater soon so hopefully I won't have to drive it there much.

I would replace the antifreeze and get a new battery, just as a precautionary measure. If you are moving to the Chicago area, I would definitely suggest an SUV for winter driving. The roads are bad and often are not plowed. Plus, they use a lot of salt. I have bought a number of cars from the Chicago area in the past and corrosion damage is unbelievable.

moving to Illinois......Anyone have suggestions ?
Yes.

Don't.

I don't care how far into this move you are, turn the whole shebangabang around 180 degrees and stay put. There is no woman, job, family or friends worth living there for.

Illinois is a complete and utter shithole. A socialist, retarded place. It's The Suck.

DO NOT MOVE THERE!!!!!

that being said, it's only for 18 months. I don't want to go, but it's a promotion that opens many doors.

It's not Chicago area, its the other side of the state. Thomson Area.

As suggested, get a hygrometer and test the antifreeze. I seriously doubt Ford installs different coolant for, say, Florida vs Minnesota.
Battery is a serious maybe. Mustang batteries are iffy at best anyway.
It's been too long since I lived up north to comment on undercoating but it's probably a good idea.
No way I'd move back north even for a promotion that opens doors. Been there, did that once. Let's just say the hype didn't live up to reality.
Besides, in the south it's unlikely that your car will literally freeze to the ground... That was the last straw for me.

Here's your new plan;

Pretend to move to Illinois. Take the 18 month stint, but then claim you have herpes-COVID-AIDS-Ebola, and can only do your work via Skype, Zoom and e-mail/phone, because you're quarantined for the next 18 months.

Get a cell phone with an Illinois prefix. Get a mailing address in the correct area, then have everything forwarded to home in Arkansas. Get paid for the move, but keep that money to use in covering the fact you never moved.

Seriously, you will be miserable for the entire 18 months. As soon as you cross the boarder into Illinois, your testosterone levels will drop, you'll gain 83 pounds, and you'll suddenly become a depressed, anti-social loser.

S.W. Michigan.

Close enough. Driven through the area, into/through Chicago, many times. Have family there.

Hmmmm.... ever think maybe it’s opening other doors because everyone else before you declined to walk through those same doors (LOL - maybe... due to what NoVaGT stated)....

I was lucky that my first professional job was for a small startup outfit with a bunch of go-getters. I asked my boss, who was one of the founders, for advice on advancement. He said, "There's a lot to do around here. Do the work that nobody else wants to do."
Always remembered that and it worked out well for me.

Holy sh*t, @NoVaGT's description made it that I don't even want to look at Illinois on a map!

This I can attest to. I do this at the civil/municipal engineering firm where I work and the increases in salary have been very beneficial. Plus I work with some uninspired sand-baggers, I have them to thank as well.
