If your thinking of retiring to Arizona, why not give Nevada a serious consideration. Very similar climate to Arizona, but no state income tax. There are only a handful of states with no income tax, but some of them have extremely high sales tax to make up for it. But Nevada uses the casino taxes to support the state, so the sales tax is low and no income tax.

Here around Cleveland the weather is just right for salt use in the winter and having grown up here and lived 47 of my 54 years here, I've seen first hand what salt and moisture will do to a car. I don't care how many times you wash it, there cracks and crevices that the salt and moisture will get into and you can never get it out completely. If you want your car to look pristine and remain rust free, your only choice is to park it every winter.

Some of the local cities around here have switched over to a brine solution and it's even worse than traditional rock salt.

Around Central Oregon the brine solution (magnesium chloride) is used generously. It is some nasty shit for car finishes...
I don't mind keeping my pony in the stable for 5-6 months to protect it....

It is a travesty to drive such a fine machine in the summer. With the pollen, dust, bugs, road construction, tree sap and road debris being thrown up by other vehicles, the paint will be destroyed. God forbid a pop-up rain shower. I say just park it in a climate controlled environment and gaze at it longingly from time to time.

Nevada tax brake is something to consider , but Las Vagas is only a 3.5 hour Cruz . 3.0 to Laughlin . Trust me I know what the drive times are .lol that is of course driving the posted limit . My other half is from Vegas , she still goes every four weeks to get her hair done . But as for living there fun for a day not so much for a week .

There is plenty of places to live in Nevada, not just sin city. Get up closer to Reno, much cooler than the brutal desert heat of Vegas.

I myself plan on retiring to Tennessee, another no tax state but much closer to home to come visit around the holidays. And Tenn is a good compromise, far enough south that the winters are fairly mild, but far enough north that you don't get the brutal heat and humidity of the deep south.

I drive a Mustang all year round. Never liked trucks or SUVs. My 1998 and 2003 were daily driven for over 130K miles each in all kinds of weather. I never wanted a beater, want to drive a Mustang. I live in MD and it used to snow a lot more. Last 3 years not very much snow here.

I've considered doing just that. In the end it's a compromise - on days where it's above freezing and there's no salt on the road, I'll take it out for a spin.

These cars love the cold air, too. My car hooks better with my winter performance tires than the ps4s in the summer. It's so much fun spanking a subaru that thought I'd be spinning.

Even with the salt, just be proactive. Two winters in (It's my daily) and some minor surface rust is easily cleaned up with sandpaper and paint. I sold my beater for the winter tires because I just hated the thought of leaving, one of my biggest sources of joy, chained up for half the year.

I only drive in the winter when roads are dry. However, in cold temps, the all season BFG Comp 2s that I use in cold weather will break loose if I punch it at any speed up to 60 mph. Fun but definitely requires full attention.

There is a difference between winter performance tires and snow tires. The former, being what I have, is more geared towards dry and cold performance. I also have the 275 rear tire size. They're a lot better in the snow than all seasons, though, regardless.

My guess is that the ps4s tires have a compound that's better suited for temps around 90° F and up. The only time it's that hot by me is if it's accompanied by uncomfortable levels of humidity. So most of my summer recreational driving is when it's around 70 or 80. The winter set seems to excel arouns 20° to 40° and that's where the temps sit, by me, for most of the winter. So it could just be that I'm driving more during the winter tires optimal temp range than the ps4s.

Regardless, it's a win for me. The car feels great in the cold so having tires that can capitalize on that is a lot of fun.

I totally agree. It’s actually quite impressive how well my Sottozero 3’s hook up in those cold temps. Plus I swear my Corsa Xtreme is louder the colder it gets. It’s a win win...except for my neighbors.

Just rearranging the shop this morning, get everything in it’s place for the winter.

I’m 50 miles west of Boston, last year our first storm of the season was December 3-4 and we got 2 feet of snow. Hoping this winter isn’t as bad.

And the rest of the winter we got gatz (I'm 30 miles away from you). Last winter was trivial ! I think I drove to work twice in the snow (in my truck), three times tops. Mildest winter in the 20 years since we started our company and I began commuting 30 miles up 495 every day. Just put a set of performance snows on them for the cold days.

I live in Michigan and drove it today. Will drive it also tomorrow. You should be able to drive at least 1 time a month when it gets above 40. Should be all you need.

I believe the science behind the statement, but .... letting it idle will raise the temp. Starts fast idle, warm drops down, is it the same a driving no. Oil temp, I would argue that when the pressure drops, you're seeing the oil at temp. The temperature gage seen in the instrument cluster is the coolant .

Does it lube the internals yes, scrub the cylinder walls yes, keep the gaskets from drying out yes. Bottom line some run time is much better than none.

You're right about it being ok to drive above 40 but with the thin paint Ford gives us I'm not willing to drive in the sand and salt.
