Short story:

I never street parked my car until I met my wife and traveled to New Orleans religiously. Within a month of driving there and parking HALFWAY in the grass my car was dinged. I got it touched up and continued to "Street Park".....found my front bumper on the ground the next time.

I hope you have better luck than I did.

I hope that is a joke.
Unfortunately, I am not. I have no other choice right now than to pay $150 a month... I can't bring myself to do it right now.

We live in Chicago and would NEVER park on the street. I've watched these punks try to back some mid 90s Buick boat into a spot sized for a mini cooper and they use their bumper to literally push the cars out of the way. We have one spot in our condo but happily pay for our other spots. Check out craigslist. Lots of people sublet garage spots in bigger cities. I figure it's either pay for a spot or pay to repair the inevitable front bumper, rear bumper and vandal damage.

I never thought to check Craigslist. I do that now.

There's also a street spot a bit further down where it's actually only enough room for a single car. I'm gonna get that sucker, I promise.

If I could pay an additional $150 to have a garage for my car, I'd be all about that, vs the street. But that's just my feeling on it.

Makes OP's avatar even more ironic.

Private parking doesn't even exist at my current lodgings. It's $150 a month at my office, which makes it even harder to settle for. I'd have to take 2 buses and about 1 hour of travel time to get to the car (public transport).

The struggle is real!
