So I'm going down the highway and can hear a dull whopwhopwhopwhop that goes away when i make a sharp left turn so I figure a wheel bearing may be going bad. I get home, jack up the drivers side rear end and sure enough, the rear wheel has an excessive amount of play in it. Take it to Ford and tell them what's up and they say they will look at it. I get a call later that day and they say it's a bad wheel bearing and it's covered under warranty. Everything is looking good so far. So the service manager calls me the next day and says everything is good and ready to be picked up. Awesome, right?
Well, as soon as I pull out onto the highway and get up to speed, guess what? The dull whopwhopwhopwhop is still there. I have things to do so I just go home and figure I'll handle it the next day. So I get home and read the service sheet and they replace the "right" side rear hub/bearing. They obviously didn't even test drive it after they replaced it. I'm so frustrated that I gave in and just ordered a Timken bearing and figured I'd replace it myself. I've done everything to my cars myself for the past 15 years and have all the tools I need(but not all the ones I want
). Anyways, I get started on it tonight and I can't get any lugnut off the car at all. Not one off the front or rear of the car. I think ford when nuts with their impact wrench on my car. I've tried my trusty HF Earthquake impact wrench (that took the crank bolt off an LS1 with no problem), a tire iron and a 2 foot breaker bar with absolutely no luck.
So I get my propane torch and put it on one of the lug for about 30 seconds. Welp, that heat softened the lug up enough for my impact gun to round it off. So this is going to make for a fun weekend.
I guess this is more of a post to vent than to look for advice but if you have any, throw it my way, haha. I'll be going around to tire places this weekend to see if anyone can get these things off. I don't think I'll go to that ford dealership anymore.
