Normally I just read and don’t post much but since I didn’t find any useful information regarding this product here goes nothing!
I’ve owned Mustangs in the past (S197 most recently) and I’m well aware of the bigger more well know suspension companies that offer products for Mustangs. When I initially purchased my 2018 GT PP, I didn’t intend to modify it all that much since I wasn’t around the “car scene” in my area anymore. I figured I would buy it and just enjoy it for what it was….. WRONG! All it took was a trip back to the old Mustang Club stomping grounds and hanging out with some car clubs and next thing I know I’m off buying all kinds of different parts.
When I finally made it to the suspension upgrades for my 2018 I didn’t think I would ever entertain the idea of buying coilovers from a company that I had never heard of like Riaction. A friend of mine had purchased/installed them on her 2015 Mustang and said that she liked them since her main goal was simply to lower the car and have the ability to adjust the coilovers. After talking to her for a bit I decided to reach out to Riaction via social media to see what they had to say.
I talked to the team from Riaction a few different times an then I eventually decided to take the plunge and purchase a set of coilovers from them. They shipped fairly quickly (within a week) and were packaged pretty well. When I unboxed everything they felt solid and definitely looked the part.
Once everything was unboxed I reached out to a friend that has a shop nearby and I took the car by that weekend to get everything installed. I showed up to the shop around 8am that Saturday and it ended up taking us pretty much all day (6-7 hours) to install everything. The install was definitely a pain and I told myself right then and there that I would never ever install coilovers or shocks/struts on another s550! Yeah it was that big of a pain! We ended up dropping the car almost an inch and half in the front and a little less in the rear. We also installed 25mm Eibach spacers on all four corners to get more of a flush look.
My car was never meant to be a full on track car even though I’ve taken it to the track and 1/4 mile strip a couple of times. My car is simply a street driven car that I like to have some spirited driving fun in from time to time. Once everything was installed I had to wait until the following weekend to actually take it out and have some fun in it and boy oh boy did we have some fun! We took a drive along one of the better twisty roads in my neck of the woods. This is the route we took to test out the new suspension mods.
First driving impressions were that these coilovers are a night and day difference to the stock Performance Pack suspension. I was ripping around corners on these coilovers and it as a great feeling to not feel like I was just floating around corners anymore. I was pleasantly surprised that they felt great and I didn't really didn't hear any crazy squeaking or weird noises coming from the new suspension. My Mustang is not a daily driven car but I do take it to work about once or twice a week and it was great getting into the car and having a blast all the way to work.
So I've been giving nothing but Pros so far..... well here are the Cons:
After about a month or two I started to feel my inner old man surfacing because the harshness of the coilovers was starting to annoy me. Don't quote me on this but I believe the spring rates are 8k Front & 12k Rear. I didn't put a ton of miles on these coilovers since I don't have a very long commute to/from work so I might have put close to 1k miles overall on these when I decided that I needed some kind of middle ground between these and the stock PP suspension. Yes I tried to adjust these coilovers and the having plenty of settings but these felt like they were geared more towards a car that is track focused rather than just street driven.
The stance is great and the suspension works just fine but I ended up reaching out to Steeda about getting the right suspension to fit my needs. Not long after I ended up swapping out the Riaction coilovers for a brand new Steeda suspension.
My finally thought is that I think the Riaction coilovers would be great if I didn't care about ride harshness but it just wasn't for me at this point.
Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions. Also this is my first thread so please be kind and excuse any mistakes that I might have made. Thanks for taking the time to read!
