NY state has tested more people than CA, Texas, Florida, PA, and Illinois COMBINED. Those 5 states make up over 100 million people, NY 20mil. So yeah, of course, NY is going to have a bigger problem. Can you get off the Trump train and learn to do a little research?
Amount of testing has nothing to do with prevalence of disease - they have the biggest problem because they have the densest population, and the highest exposure density, and in a colder climate. They should have shutdown first - they waited far too long.

Haha I spent my entire career in life sciences R&D developing, clinically validating and marketing human drug products. It is obvious you know nothing about this. You hate Trump, we get it. Leave discussion of serious health topics to people who know something about it. I'm done here - stay safe!

Factually incorrect opinion and flat out nonsense. Dr Fauci made it clear the China shutdown made a huge difference.
Actually there was no China shut down. That and the fact the restrictions could have but into place at least a week sooner most like allowed more cases of COVID-19 into the United States.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Jan. 21 announced the first travel-related case of novel coronavirus in the United States. Ten days later, Trump announced travel restrictions on non-U. S. citizens traveling from China, effective Feb. 2, but there were 11 exceptions, and Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan were not included. U.S. citizens could still travel from China but were subject to screening and possible 14-day quarantine. Some flights were immediately suspended, but others continued for weeks, at the discretion of the airlines.

Trump haters believe whatever fits their narrative.
Sorry Rick but this goes both ways. Trump lovers believe whatever fits their narrative. I honestly do not care either way but it is the truth.

You ignore the actions of TWO governors because you can't defend them
I agree, these should have done more, faster. That does not excuse the Federal government for their errors (notice I didn't say Trump, there are many within the government who are at fault).

Haha, I spent my entire career not being a bootlicker.

Edit: Let us not forget that had our gov't been prepared it wouldn't have been on the states to lead each other through a pandemic alone and without aid for at least a month.

China travel restrictions were well-advised, but not necessarily as impactful as some are making them out to be. First, they were advised...the subject matter experts urged them. Second, since the restrictions, about 40,000 pax still entered. Several hundred thousand entered between the first of the year and the time of the restrictions. Finally, major airlines had already ceased travel prior to the restrictions being put in place. Not taking away from the President, but many arguing the facts have them a bit off...

Prior to the travel restrictions:

Delta, American and United said Friday they will suspend all flights between the U.S. and mainland China, following the lead of several major international carriers that have stopped flying to China as the coronavirus outbreak continues to spread.

American and United said they will keep flying to Hong Kong.

American announced that it would stop flying to mainland China starting Friday and running through March 27. Delta and United planned to wait until Feb. 6 to give employees and passengers there more time to leave the country. United’s suspension will last until March 28; Delta’s until April 30.

Yeah, totally pointless to showcase his apparent lack of expertise and leadership. Remind me again how it is pointless to document extremely disgusting and shameful behavior from a sitting president who constantly downplayed the threat, called a health expert 'alarmist' for bringing up the seriousness of it, and has done less than almost every other developed nation to federal enforce guidelines on reducing the spread.
Yeah, why should he get to golf on Saturdays?

There was no ban of Americans coming back from China, this did, in fact, lead to a larger spread. The reason it is on the list is because it did nothing to stop the spread.
How about a permanent ban on china travel, if your passport is stamped in China, 60 days before you can set foot back on American soil.

Do you really think that if the President were to have taken the lead and asked for what other nations and even some American states had been doing that the governors wouldn't have listened? Are you seriously using the strawman argument 'oh, well what can he do he's only the president who said he has complete authority?'

I really can't understand how people defend his actions. I get that you like the dude, nothing wrong with that, but he fucked up and the evidence is LITERALLY everywhere.
Yeah, I think Cuomo and Whitmer would have fell right in line and agreed with everything he said, no one would have politicized this crisis.

I believe this has something to do with the prevalence of the disease in NY and Kalifornia:

An article in The New York Times quotes epidemiologist Dr. Michael Osterholm as saying that Trump's decision to restrict travel from China was "more of an emotional or political reaction
Feb 2 Meanwhile, New York City Health Commissioner Oxiris Barbot tweets: “As we gear up to celebrate the #LunarNewYear in NYC, I want to assure New Yorkers that there is no reason for anyone to change their holiday plans, avoid the subway, or certain parts of the city because of #coronavirus."
Feb. 7: Barbot strikes again, assuring residents, "We’re telling New Yorkers, go about your lives, take the subway, go out, enjoy life."
Feb. 9: Mark Levine, the chair of New York City Council health committee and a Democrat, tweets: "In powerful show of defiance of #coronavirus scare, huge crowds gathering in NYC's Chinatown for ceremony ahead of annual #LunarNewYear parade. Chants of 'be strong Wuhan!' If you are staying away, you are missing out!"
Feb. 11: Klain, the Biden adviser, remarks that the evidence "suggests" the coronavirus won't be a "serious pandemic."
Feb. 13: "There are ZERO confirmed cases of coronavirus in New York City, and hundreds of Chinese restaurants that need your business!" the New York City mayor's office tweets. "There is nothing to fear. Stop by any Chinatown for lunch or dinner!"
Feb. 24: “It’s exciting to be here, especially at this time, to be able to be unified with our community,” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., tells reporters as she visits San Francisco's Chinatown. “We want to be vigilant about what is out there in other places. We want to be careful about how we deal with it, but we do want to say to people ‘Come to Chinatown, here we are — we're, again, careful, safe — and come join us.'”

Now Cuomo is demanding more money.

"I then tune in to Trump for my little bit of light relief and entertainment."
Those are dead Americans he is talking about.
Trump is funny as a result of his inept ramblings

Covid 19 isn't funny. Dead people are not funny.

Trump is verging on deranged today with his stupid rantings about lifting restrictions in Virginia and other states. Can he not see this is fuelling the right wing extremists already on the streets. Dangerous times for democracy and freedom in the US.

The only thing I find funny is the notion that Trump is somehow above scrutiny. As soon as someone makes a remark, his followers chant “TDS” as if a rational, reasoned argument, supported by facts is simply impossible to form.

The term has been used by Trump supporters to discredit criticism of his actions, as a way of reframing the discussion by suggesting that his opponents are incapable of accurately perceiving the world.

I mentioned this a few days ago and it probably got missed by some. This is EXACTLY the point. There was no effective ban whatever Trump claims, as US citizens were returning with minimal quarantine on arrival. The strain of COVID 19 in the US came from China, not Europe and was brought back by US citizens.

Funny, you spout off about balanced articles then proceed with your own pre conceived opinions about our President who has done a much better job than your own government at containing the spread..
I wouldn't want to be certain about who if anybody will have done the best job of controlling COVID19 at this early stage. Different countries are using different strategies with differing success at different stages. Those strategies will evolve and anybody who thinks that it is all over is foolish at best

South Korea appear to be doing a pretty good job of it from where I sit. 51 million people jammed into an area smaller than the smallest state of Australia. Double the population, only double the number of cases. Roughly 50 people tested for each confirmed case.
Logic says that they should be up amongst the worst affected if population density is a major predictor (4th most densely populated country).
Bangladesh, India and Lebanon being the most dense.
