I have the Flex Fuel and E85 tune through Lund. Haven't been able to run the E85 dedicated tune since I can only get about 70% ethanol here in NC. And you are right, the Flex Fuel tune by itself made this a totally different car.
Go run him. I think you might be surprised how well you do.

I also would have to agree that a tuned 5.0L A10 has a pretty good chance against a bone stock manual ZL1 for drag racing, especially since the torque management really holds those 6 spds back without a tune to help eliminate some of the lag. With a potent custom tune , E85 , and some decent tires I feel you would stack up pretty well against a stock Zl1 depending on the driver and conditions of course. I've read some ZL1 M6 guys were having trouble getting into the low 12s stock. Our Stage 1 package which includes a cold air intake, thermostat , and flex fuel tuning would be my suggestion to really get that extra edge against him.

You honestly might get him on a roll or from a dig stock. More so if he hasnt had time to really learn his car. Plenty of videos online of A10 Gt's walking ZL1's.

Even just getting into the 12's. Seen that first hand. Not taking away anything from the ZL1 mind you.

You got drag strip drive mode ? Use it, and take off all electronic traction control by holding it 10 sec. Make sure its enough hot outside you don't want to lose it in third gear wot shift. Things can go wrong quite quick. But it will rip trust me

Use 93 octane if you have access to. You get better performance from it than 87 or 91.

I thought the current gen started in 2012 and was rated at 580 hp? I do NOT claim to be a Chevy expert.

700 rwhp does seem to be too much. I want to able to enjoy the car, I think that high of hp would prevent me from doing that.

Appreciate the response.
I agree, for most of us, 700 rwhp is a lot for the street and more than I'd want in a street car, honestly. The sweet spot for me would be around 600 crank hp, naturally aspirated. That equates to around 530 rwhp +/-. The lower torque output of a high hp naturally aspirated engine is more manageable. The torque of a forced induction setup overwhelms street tires and once you start spinning, you're done. I've raced 750+ hp Hellcats from a 10 mph roll in my bone stock A10 GT PP1 and hung for several seconds as we both spin the tires initially, with the Hellcat spinning tires at higher speeds while mine started to hook in 2nd. The run doesn't typically go on long enough for the other car to start to pull away (all of twice that this has happened).

The 2012 ZL1 is a 5th gen Camaro (2010-2015) and yes, rated at 580 hp. But that is a slow 580 hp from what I've seen. A 2018+ Mustang GT A10 PP1 is quicker or as quick than a 5th gen ZL1 and can trap higher mph than a 5th gen ZL1 in the 1/4 mile. Again, the GT's A10 gear ratios and tuning is phenomenal for acceleration runs, aided by the 3.55 rear end gearing of the performance package and the high rpm torque curve shape of the Gen 3 Coyote. 2016 started the 6th gen Camaro on the GM Alpha chassis (a very good chassis). 2017 was the first year of the 6th gen Camaro ZL1, with the 650 hp LT4 from the Corvette Z06.

The 2020 Mustang Shelby GT500 is around 700 rwhp, give or take, and 0-60 isn't its strong suit on the street (mid 3s from seasoned drivers). Although, it traps 132-133 mph in the 1/4 mile which is far higher than a 2017+ ZL1 (~125 mph in automatic, 122-123 mph in manual).

When I spoke to Lund they said E70 minimum is okay on the E85 tune but you might want to double check with them just to be sure.

Yep. I can tell you from exp ... uh, anonymous YT videos, that a few intake/exhaust tweaks with a tune on a 3rd Gen with an A10 + 3.55 is __quick__. I'm talking around town, under 50, from a dead dig, not into the HERF DERF 3 HONKS FROM 60.

It always begins with my buddy has lol. Expect to begin spending $$$, as he likely will do if you beat him and then it goes on and on....and then one day, somebody will blow past both of you....always happens.

15% trim spread? Yeah, no thank you. Ideally you want less than 5%

Information from the tuner (the expert). You can decide what to do with it. You might be surprised to see the fuel trims on a stock tune. However, would I rather have 85%, yeah. The fuel trims on my current tune is usually 1%.

Lund told me the same thing. Have to be within 15% plus or minus and the dedicated tune will adjust. Any farther out switch to flex. Personally I won't run the e85r with less than 75%

Op- I'm sure win or loose it will be close enough to shut your friend up!
