So I have been patiently waiting for several months now after buying a house to purchase a '15 GT. I have had my eyes set on a specific one since November of last year that has been sitting at the dealership. It's the only race red that I could find with the options I want in my area and I know I should be able to work down the price considering '16's will be available to order soon. Can anybody give me any suggestions in terms of what to be cautious about specifically since it's been sitting for 7 months now? I know to look for body alignment issues and such, but I'm more referring to issues that could potentially pop up with a car that has been sitting for so long. Any advice will help. Thanks guys!

I know that our local dealer still has a car they got in November sitting on the lot.

The rotors on that one look horrible at this point.

I went to go look at it on sunday and the rotors actually didn't look as bad as I thought they would considering I have always seen the car outside in the elements but that was one of the first things I looked at.

Doesn't really matter what the rotors look like as after a couple minutes of driving/braking they will be a nice shiny silver again.

Other than making sure the battery is fine, I can't think of much to look for.

Keep in mind it probably has been test driven if it was one of the first on the lot - and they're almost always test driven hard. But some people say hard break in is fine...so...might be a moot point.

Go for it and use the 'its been sitting' into negotiations.

I don't think you have much to worry about. Just give her a nice bath, clay bar and waxing when you get her home!

Good luck! :ford:

I don't have an S550 yet but when I took delivery of my S197 I inspected the paint closely for any damage caused post delivery by the dealership. With a car that has sat for awhile I myself would look over that paint and interior with extreme detail. I've seen S550s on lots brand new with damage just from parking too close to curbs and parking spot blocks or from customers jumping in and out of the seats scratching up the door sills and leather.

Now for the amount of S550s I've seen myself I wouldn't be too worried about the body alignment issues that turned up in the beginning. You have to remember that one post of a venting person always leads to trolls (who don't have the car anyway) posting assumptions on the situation which then leads to innocent viewers being swayed to believe a small issue is a worldwide tragedy. :ninja:

Good luck in your new purchase! I wish I could follow suit in the near future. 2016 GT Performance Pack FTW!!!

Good call on paint/dings.

The body panel alignment issue is very real. And if the car is 7 months old, there is a very real possibility it will have some issues. Are they worth losing sleep over or passing up on the car? Likely not (I didn't). But there have been some pretty bad cases.

You should give it about a 10 mile test drive to make sure the tires will smooth out. Sometimes when they sit in one spot for a very long time, they never get smooth again. Though the tires now are better about this than they used to be.

On our lot, we used to see this as a problem.....of course, it has been a long time since we had to replace tires on a new car to be able to sell it. But it has happened.

Good call on this. I never thought about the tires.

Thank you all for the comments. I hope everything works out to my advantage if and when I purchase the car. I know no car is 100% perfect but I just want to make sure I don't get screwed over with anything.

My car was built in early September, was released from the assembly plant in December, and I bought it at the end of March. I have the most minor of panel fitment issues (just front left bumper to fender gap) but for all intents and purposes, the quality of mine is extremely good. Every other panel fits great. No rattles, no wind whistles, no vibrations or functional issues.

The only real issues that could come up would potentially be a bit more corrosion if sitting in a salty/humid environment and any other weather-related effects.

That car is sitting there waiting for you, don't let her get away! That's how mine was. Built beginning of October, sat on the lot until almost christmas, just waiting for me!

I would suggest during your test drive take it on the highway, listen for gear whine, and see how the trans shifts. Also , on a cold start let it idle down for 5-10 minutes to see if you hear any weird clutch chattering when the full idle sequence is complete (when the oil temp hits normal).
