$50 oil filter?

I have a 17 but got a new 19R motor in November and today I got my first oil change. Usually the total is around $160 with the original filter but for some reason today it was over $200. I look on the paperwork and the new filter assembly is $50! Do all 19 have this part? Is this the new norm? The service associated looked and said the old one was about 11 and new one is $46. Insane. I gave up German for American and the oil filter is even more!

The FL-2087 is $20.97 on RockAuto. Motorcraft 5W-50 Full Synthetic is $7 a quart. Should be about $91 for parts... Was the labor fair? Next time bring your own supplies.

Yup. FL2087 is the new normal. The core is metal reinforced, unlike the original one launched in 2017 that was borrowed from the 4-cylinder Ecoboost.

The FL-2087 is $20.97 on RockAuto. Motorcraft 5W-50 Full Synthetic is $7 a quart. Should be about $91 for parts... Was the labor fair? Next time bring your own supplies.

They only charged $14 for labor, the rest was parts! If I’m going to pay that much might as well go amsoil and do it myself.

I have a case of Amsoil with three filters in the marketplace section. I'll cut you a sweet deal on it and I live right up the road from you in Milton. Let me know if you're interested. Filters are spin on non cartridge style. Not sure which you would have.

Fellow Atlanta GT350 owner here... I used the awarded points that Ford gave me when I bought the vehicle and received my "free" oil change.
They still sent me an invoice by mistake, but they listed the parts and labor (which I won't have to pay).
This was from Hardy Ford in Dallas, GA.
Total $141.60
1 FT4Z*6731*A FILTER ASY -OIL $9.31 list $$5.69 net
10 XO*5W50*QGT OIL - ENGINE $10.80 total $108.00
CQ $19.35 (disposal fee???)

I will do the rest of the oil changes myself.... they did not properly clean up and there is oil dripping on my garage floor. Only did it because it was FREE.

So to answer your question "Droopy1592" (must be an interesting story behind this name?), it looks like you should be able to buy a filter assembly for $9.31 list price at Hardy Ford, or have a complete oil change for $141.60.

childhood nickname as my eyes always were barely open, anyway yeah that’s what I talked about in the OP, the new filter is 4x the price of the old at the dealer.

maybe this is a new thing. I heard the old filter is phased out so maybe that’s why they didn’t have any. Hardy Ford is an hour away and Hennessy is 5 minutes. I’ll be better off ordering the new filter online for half of the costs.

apparently it’s made by amsoil (I think) and supersedes for Shelby but the older EcoBoost filter is still used on pre-19 cars for now.

It's made to Ford spec by a contractor. Nothing to do with Amsoil unless Amsoil is using the same contractor and even then, the filter meets Ford's specs, not anyone else's. I believe that if you go to a Ford dealer and ask for a cartridge filter for your GT350, they'll only sell you the new one.

I believe (and maybe it's just me) that the earlier FL2062 filters failed testing in cold weather with the GT500, which is the first full-scale test qualification of a new engine with the cartridge filter. The last fully tested filter was the FL2069ST spin-on filter. It worked great but dealers couldn't install it reliably, nor could anyone else, so it was swapped out for an Ecoboost filter that's normally used with much thinner oil. I suspect that the 5w50 oil being pushed by a high volume oil pump at -20 degrees squashed the Ecoboost filters so a steel reinforced version was designed.

I've found it easiest to just order a kit (Motorcraft oil and filter) from these guys, delivered to the door.

About $120 delivered to the door - my car uses the old spin on filter but they have kits with all options.

Someday I'll research local stores for a suitable oil source but still stuck going to Ford likely for a filter and last time I tried to order a part there I would have felt better had they held a gun to my head. Probably can find Ford filters in bulk on line somewhere.

They can pry my 2069 filters out of my cold dead hands. I’ve had no problems with my owner installed, torqued to spec spin on .
