2016 Shelby GT350, 2017 Ford Focus ST, On Order 2020 CTFP Shelby GT 500 with POTTS. Car is released and awaiting shipment. I am running out of time before having to leave for Japan on July 29th.
I would not say you are crazy for buying one, maybe a little touched in the head paying $10K for stripes, but hey, it is only money. I know Tom has ordered the painted stripes and to be sure you will have a "rarer bird" but hold on to that car bcuz it will be worth more down the road. If you sell it, you won't find many takers willing to pay extra, but someone will. And those people will take care of it.
I agree it wasn't an easy decision to drop $10K for the painted on stripes. I am a mustang fanatic and have driven various mustangs for over 25 years. I felt that the opportunity to buy the greatest mustang every built was just too good to pass up on. For me the car is a keeper. The value of the car won't matter much to me 30 years from now because I will be too old by then for it to matter much but I will sure enjoy the heck out of the car over that time. I missed out on getting a GT350R but this time I was able to score one of the coveted CTFP cars but I have to wait until spring to get it.

If anyone is looking for a funny read, the local idiot is back at it on the C6 forum claiming that DA and temperatures affects mustangs more than corvettes and camaros (seriously, you can't make this stuff up).

"Camaros and Corvettes typically are better built and have better control than Mustangs. Remember back when I mentioned control? Mustangs are greatly affected by a lot of conditions that do not affect Camaro and Corvettes due to how they are engineered. Suspension and chassis setups have a part as does the actual engine."

Apparently he hasn't heard of the ideal gas law or SAE correction.

I hope you never sit on a jury.
I'm waaayyy too educated to ever be accepted for a jury. No lawyer would keep me on a panel, so you never have to worry about me sitting in judgment.

No the Ford/Mustang fans are not using the test and article from Motortrend to state that the Corvette is junk. This is more of a response to all of the haters who came on to the Mustang 6g Shelby GT500 forums when the C8 info was initially released and laid down the 2.9 or 3.0 0-60 time and GT500's weight was listed at over 4,000lbs. All of the haters bashed the GT500 before all of the data was out and before actual test drives were performed. Now that the all of the performance numbers are out on the GT500 and they are very good the haters have since vanished. It is funny how people wanted to compare the C8 to the GT500 when few of the stats were out and now people are saying "oh it is not a fair comparison because it is not the ZO6 or other high end version of the Corvette." People were saying I was crazy to order a $100K CTFP mustang but looks like I wasn't crazy after all.
Who did you order from and is it msrp, msrp + or <msrp?

I am not sure why no one is comparing the ZL1 1LE A10 which to me is the comparison that everyone is waiting on. That would be a closer comparo.
Is the C8 faster than the ZL1-1LE? I have no idea if it is not then this comparison makes sense. There also was Randy's comment "Forget Mustang vs. Camaro. Ford's Shelby GT500 is ready to challenge Chevrolet’s flagship C8" he is definitely aware the ZL1-1LE's capabilities so I am not sure what to make of that statement unless he knows something already.

These are some impressive Times

Shelby GT500 (Base): 1:59.68 sec
Shelby GT500 (CFTP): 1:56.30 sec

I thought Chevy claims 1.51.25 for the C7 ZR1 at VIR, and I saw a video of a ZL1 1 LE run 1.58.7. I know different days, different drivers.

Don't let BlaqWhole see this post. We'll have to endure him trying to explain how a base GT500 runs within a second of the 1LE despite not having track-intent rubber and the CFTP is faster. Or, as you noted, it might simply be easier to dismiss any comparison by stating it has no bearing unless the times were same day, same driver. The fact that the GT500 is being virtually pitted against the ZR1 is crazy and not even in consideration a couple of weeks ago.

That's a shocker considering your assessment of the "consensus" and how far it was from reality. I initially thought you were possibly being sarcastic but given how ultra educated you apparently are I no longer do.

My guess is no. The crazy thing is, the GT500 is in production, and the C8 in this testing is said to be pre-production. Why they didn't test the ZL1-1LE is quite simple....this comparison will bring in more readers, which means more money.

Both the ZLE and GT500 CFTP are my favorite cars right now, but I'm buying a ZLE because the great deals. Here's my take:

I don't think the base GT500 will compete with a ZLE on a road course, but I do think it will beat a base ZL1. I don't think the base GT500 can carry enough speed through the turns even though it will be faster in the straights. The ZLE carries even more speed through the turns than the C8 and should be slightly faster through the straights than the C8 looking at trap speeds in the quarter.

I'm still not sure what's going to happen with CFTP vs ZLE on a road course. It's going to depend on the ZLE making up lost ground in the turns.

Both the CFTP and ZLE will give a C7 Z06 a close race but be slightly slower. Neither would touch a ZR1. I'm talking about pro drivers at the limit of these cars of course.

Keep in mind with a CFTP you get ZLE laptimes, ZR1 1/4 mile times, and a comfortable ride.

It's a win. No need to defend the car.

On the C8 interior (I sat in both driver and passenger seat)
Is it nicer than the GT500? In terms of overall materials yes. GM offers many trim levels and options though and this is why a base C8 Z51 can cost well over $90K. But the $80K+ one I sat in was very nice in terms of technology, fit and finish, etc.

But.. The Mustang is roomier for the driver and passenger. I’m not a huge guy (5’11” 200lbs with muscular build) but I found it cramp like my C7. There’s a ton of buttons and the passenger space is very confined and limited. The Mustang is easier to get in and out of, and has better visibility.

So better interior is up for debate. Nicer materials and more tech (with higher trim levels)? Yes.

More comfortable and roomier daily driver? Nope. As a father with young kids still in the house the backseat is a huge plus for me.

If you have passengers in your car regularly the C8 is really not the best choice. Even petite passengers will find the passenger space isolated and confined.

Haha who doesn't remember waiting 25 minutes for America On Line and the modem to stop making that screaching noise. Just to get booted off 5 minutes later. Or taking 14 hours to down load one song. Good times

Lawyers can surprise you sometimes, my friend. But if you really wanna get sent home during voire dire, tell them your M6G handle, Dickus. :-)

Best of luck but you being so edge-a-cated 'n all, you probably have nothing to worry about. <shaking head>
