EV is here people. Get with the program. Hell just watch Watchman. every vehicle on that show is electric. Heck even classics like the black grand national the main character drives has been converted to electric. With the way things are going, it will not be long from now.....maybe 10 years top if that, the EV will be the main source of driving and a gas powered car will be something you look at.

This is the worst thing to ever happen to the Mustang. A 4 door SUV is not a Mustang.
R.I.P. Mustang. You had a great run.

No... someone at Ford owns a 2013-2016 Mazda CX-5 and thought it would be brilliant to mate it with a Mustang. It’s nearly identical in shape and layout of the rear hatch area.

There’s nothing Mustang inspired about it.... did any of you even look at the fine print for the HP ratings for these E’s? The top of the line ā€œGTā€ level trim makes only 333HP - for $60k....

If everyone is this upset about the name, just wait until the Mach-E is posting faster 0-60 times than real Mustangs.
Won't matter to me one bit.

It'll be computer-optimized and traction-controlled to the point where you might as well be "driving" a video game.

Welcome back. Please post a copy of the reservation for your new Mach-E First Edition as soon as possible. :cwl::crackup:
Honestly I’d consider it. I’m ready to go electric for a DD. I was just being funny/dumb. I think people get too butt-hurt these days over things like cars and their names. This reminds me of when Porsche released their first SUV. Lots of people were mad. Now? It’s normal and maybe only a few purists still care.

But Porsche didn't call the Cayenne something dumb like "911 Dork-E" when it came out. It was/is a separate entity, made by Porsche, not some weak attempt at connecting to an icon.

And the Mustang is every bit as iconic as the 911. At least Porsche understands the product, which I'm becoming convinced Ford does not.

Exactly. At least Porsche had the decency to not call it 911. Even GM doesn't call their Camaro SUV a Camaro (I'm referring to the new Blazer). Ford however is run by morons who have zero sense about heritage and brand worth.

If it doesn't let in rain like my 2018 coupƩ then I'm all for it. A fast Ford. What's anybody's problem?
It's a CUV.

If you have any appreciation for the driving qualities of a proper sports car, it's going to come up short where overall driving dynamics and your involvement are concerned. Ford may figure out how to brute-force impressive snap-shot numbers for the various performance metrics, but they won't tell the whole story. Can't. But unfortunately, they probably will do a pretty good con job on a lot of people.

We'll have to see what the details end up being, but I'm expecting to find things like height, weight, and seating positions too SUV-ish. Too much electronic interference in the driving experience. All of those being things that you're going to be stuck with all of the time in exchange for once in a while blasts of forward acceleration that anybody with more than two functioning brain cells can figure out how to do.

Don't know about anybody else, but my transportation damn well better be something that I actively enjoy driving even when I'm just puttering around town doing errands.

The issue is the current generation of sports cars across the board of manufacturers have gotten so expensive due to many factors that’s its priced out the younger generation. That as well as modding isn’t cheap either. This didn’t just occurred but was slowly building towards it. I agree technology has progressed and will continue to do so to make driving effortless. But i don’t think sports cars nor muscle cars going away at least in our generation.
As driving is made ever more effortless, it continues to lose something. Becomes boring, even. Getting good at anything requires effort, and only with effort is satisfaction truly possible.

Not sure the Big 3 aren't being pushed into electric. That being said, I think you have a few years of ICEs then all cars will be electric.

Now then, WHAR ELECTRICITY COME FROM? WHAR!?!?!

The way I look at this is that Ford thinks the Mustang brand is strong enough to potentially cast a halo over products that are similar in intent, though not similar in form.
Then they're going about it the wrong way.

As much as enthusiasts may not have cared for Chevrolet hanging the 'SS' tag on just about everything, that was a better approach. Identity the form first with the model name and let the add-on tag indicate that the intent is other than base trim.

I'd want to know on first glance that a Mustang - or a Camaro or a Challenger for that matter - was a sports coupe and what to generally expect from that. Without having to look for so much as one more letter.

In the UK a lot of that electricity is from renewables such as wind and solar now rather than fossil fuels. We will be producing 30% from these sources with around 20% from nuclear and most of the rest from gas next year. Coal sourced electricity has now virtually stopped. Even in the US 36% is from renewables and nuclear now with coal rapidly declining.

As you say though production will need to virtually double in the next 10 years if it is to keep up with EV demand.

I've always been an ICE fan but the reality is that 99% of people just want a device to go from A-B reliably and often neither know nor care what is propelling them.

If it’s going to have Mustang taillights then give it the name too. If it was named something else then the sexy Mustang rear would definitely be diluted and not so special. It’s not making an American icon any less cool but it sure is going to help them attract buyers who wanted a Mustang but for a variety of reasons it wasn’t practical - and as a shareholder I love it!

I think you’ll all get over it. When I’m in the position to have 2 cars I’d like the second one to be quiet and electric and I’m more than happy for it to be another Mustang.
