What's next for the s550?

Across most product lines we see the V8s are being dropped for turbo V6s or even 4s. There's no point in complaining, this is just the way it is going. So...

an EB Mustang with 200 HP of electric motor could be very quick. The motor could be part of the flywheel to make packaging easier. The whole electric drive does not need to run for long, after 10 seconds of full throttle we are going to jail anyway. The battery pack could be 200 (HP) * 746 (watts) * 0.167 (hours) for a total of 25 kWh, not a big battery at all but it still provides a full minute of 200 HP boost. By comparison Tesla's model 3 battery is about 78 kWh.

We get over 500 HP with 400 lb*ft of torque at 0 rpm with the other 300 all in by 2500 rpm, much more and much earlier than a Coyote.

For the GT, probably just modest power increases year over year.

I see Ford focusing primarily on the EcoBoost to drive overall Mustang sales.

Sorry if it annoys you, but I will complain about V8s going away. I will also state emphatically if there is no V8 option I'm very unlikely to ever buy. I can get by with used vehicles or just stay completely away from the Mustang platform from now on if the V8s are gone.

Doesn't annoy me a bit, I'm complaining too. ;) But what if we get GT500 acceleration for GT $$ *and* EB fuel economy?

One reason I bought a GT now is because I wanted the V8 before they go away, manual xmsn too.

I'm complaining too, but the reality is ford (as well as every other manufacturer) doesn't really care. Enthusiasts are a very small percentage of buyers, hence why there are v6 and 4 cylinder varients that sell so well. Most just want a cool looking car. If it turns out Ford thinks putting a turbo 6 in the gt slot makes the most financial sense, they will do it.

With the decline in F-150 Coyote sales currently at hand, the Mustang GT Coyote V-8 is going to be in danger of slipping away since they come out of the same plant. they did announce last month that the plant was cutting a shift I believe. It is final call for the very last Ford V-8 powered car made anywhere in the world. Look for future smaller turbo engines with fake engine noise piped into the car just like the current Mustang Ecosoot models. Plus the costs will continue to increase for all.

I would agree the internal combustion engine may be on the way out by another 5-6 years. Wonder what these Trillion dollar oil companies are going to do...? Probably force legislation to delay full electric as long as they can.

I would agree the internal combustion engine may be on the way out by another 5-6 years. Wonder what these Trillion dollar oil companies are going to do...? Probably force legislation to delay full electric as long as they can.

I don't think we will be saying goodbye to the IC engine anytime soon for multiple reasons. That said, what we probably will be seeing more of is hybrid types, and smaller displacement FI or even FI/hybrid types. That said, I don't think performance will ever die completely, it will just start taking a different shape. Just my thoughts.

For sure. Actually electric will crush internal combustion in performance once battery tech and consumer usability increases. Do you remember (don’t know ur age) how unrealistically fast FX ho slot cars were back in late 70’s early 80’s? Instantaneous top speed when you squeeze the throttle trigger...

Well since we have the GT-500 coming out soon, I'm sure there will be a GT-500KR in a couple years. What will it consist of, who knows but I'm willing to bet body parts it'll happen.

Actually maybe a manual. We'll see..
