Do I assume you are all kicking Boardkat's butt in his heavily modified, high dollar car? Why did a Camaro win the tittle if a GT + $6k builds a winning car?

Bamac - aren't you in the any coilover less than $4k is junk club? Or is that someone else?
Those are silly questions. The Camaro was well driven but takes a little luck as well. Maybe you remember the flood they endured on day one? Oh and the fastest car in the dry day 2 was essentially a lightly prepped STP Camaro. Just suspension and 305's on 11's. No power mods.

Nightmare moon is right......it has always been the Indian, not the bow.

I have been waiting patiently to get a chance to measure my 6k setup against Boardkats hotrod but he seems to be breaking it on purpose to avoid me....

What is the "story" on the engine "problem"?
:crying:
TBD. Definitely a bearing, not sure if rod or main, top end appears fine. No idea why, wasn’t running crazy boost or g’s. Sucks :(

Lack of oil pressure did that to two rod bearings in my Lotus.

I ran STP the first year I had my mustang and in my local (Texas) region we had a decent number of participants, maybe 6. The next year I ran STP for the first half of the year but nearly everyone started transferring to CAM, including me. I started doing more road course events and started setting my car up for that instead, which forced me to CAM. By the end of that year there were only 2 STP competitors left and they weren't even competitive. This year in Texas Region, CAM-C is one of the largest classes and we regularly have 15 or more competitors per event and usually the top 10 are within 2s of 1st place. We've got a good mix of S550s, Camaro 1LEs, a Boss 302, etc all with very good drivers to compete against. For me, CAM was the obvious choice because it had all the competition and allowed me to have a dual purpose car.
Pretty much this, right here...

You have to sell to the casual autoxer and the serious.

A lot... a LOT of casual pony car autoxers want to do their typical bolt ons (which 99.999% of the time push them ever so slightly out of FS or ST”x”), run street tires and want to run in a class not full of super serious people/cars. The answer becomes CAM.

CAM, regionally, from my experience when CAM started and up until around 2017, would typically be 1-2 serious/semi-serious cars and 4+ not serious cars (something like that). CAM just became “the place” to put casual pony car autoxers and people just gravitated to the “do-what-you-want-ish” CAM. The number of participants, simultaneously, drew people away from STP due to lack of competition.

When I had my Mustang I did FS to STU to CAM. STP made no sense to me due to CAM. I could do pretty much whatever bolt ons I wanted, with basically the same PAX as STU or STP and be competitive or have competition...

read my first post in this thread. CAM came first (2013 regionally, 2014 nationally), STP should have, and here we are :)
Agreed. STP should’ve been rolled out before CAM was even mentioned!

I knew STP was coming when I went to CAM, and held off some mods on my car for it, but left that in the dust quickly (which was common with many other autox Stangers at the time I knew).

Little off topic, and I've been out awhile, but did any of you run STU?

I was when I had my accident, (goosed a bit too much throttle on greasy tires, the same way I did the previous 8 runs, on the last turn into the finish line and instead of rotating as previously, it let go, and then I was a passenger until hard wall contact) and was close to some experienced, if not nationally competitive, boost buggies, on crappy old 275's, and a car that was(and still is) a bit of a handful, with no tuning either. I was pushing hard, and was, maybe a half second off the leaders. We have an X-Pro class as well, where, at least John Hale probably was, so it wasn't the top competitor's but regionally experienced, at least. That's the most I'd have been considered at the time.

Properly suspended, and tire'd, I had a feeling I could have been ahead.

I know, small pond, and just was curious if anyone else had run STU.

***Hadn't read the entire thread looks like at least one person ran some STU.

I run in the local club with Hale and I can’t even imagine an STU Mustang outrunning his lighter AWD Subaru STU car. When I park next to him its pretty clear how much bigger the GT is than the STI, and AWD is an advantage on most courses. He’s a beast in that car too. I’ve never beat him in raw time despite finishing well in PAX from time to time. Locally he’s often 1st or 2nd in PAX trading with Vivek in AS.

John was a mentor of mine when I took my most serious shot at being competitive and was co-driving with James Wilson in my STX 08' WRX. He taught me how to brake into the ABS, and it got me to top 5 in pax a couple times. (James just missed winning the Texas Regional Tour in that car by .08 sec.). I wouldn't expect to keep up with him, but everyone else, perhaps. I might run CAM in Spokes and STU in SASCA, which is what I think I was doing. I can't remember off hand the STU rules, but I think I have to leave the back seat in for that class. Back seat out, and race battery, and stripping the hood, and I'm getting close to under 3500lbs in my base GT. Still a chunk though. I might keep a CAM and an STU hood, but that, and seats, won't happen until 2021, likely.

It'll be hard enough trying to keep up with Brian Burdette in his FS PP in raw time.

Yeah no doubt. Burdette doesn't offer much in the way of mistakes for you to capitalize on, and hes just a little familiar with autox in muscle cars.
