3K on the motor, nice central coast weather today, so I decided to change the oil in the Bullitt. 5w30 motorcraft, FL-500s filter, and 2 cans ceratec. The engine had no prior ticks or rattles or any weird sounds for that matter compared - at least compared to any of the videos out there. But it did have a intermittent light knock(?) sound every now and again that sounded like something off of a pulley. The engine possibly seemed to run a little smoother after the oil change and ceratec, but it idled smoothly before so its tough to call. Here's the opened filter in the pix. (Ordered the filter cutter from amazon) Seems like a normal amount of new engine casting flakes to me. If it has this many flakes in the next oil change I will probably get an oil analysis just to know what's going on.

I think a BMR front k-brace and some BG Syncro shift II for the tranny will be the next project -but in the meantime - All is good with the Bullitt!

Nice work. One thing I like to do when I inspect a filter is unravel the media, like you have, then clean it off thoroughly with a clean, stiff brush in a pan of fresh solvent (mineral spirits works good, but beaucoup expensive in California if you can even find it). Then, stir a strong magnet around in the solvent to pick up all the metal (except for non-ferrous). A little easier to judge how much swarf you're getting. In a 'fresh' V8, I wouldn't want to see any more than a level teaspoon at most.

Brand new Bullitt owner here. First Ford vehicle ever owned (I have three Corvettes). Can anyone please let me know when I should have the first oil change? My 2019 Corvette required the first change at 500 miles.

Second dumb question: is there any scheduled maintenance included with the purchase of a Bullitt? Corvette comes with two free oil changes.

Thanks.

Just go by your manual. You don't HAVE to have it before the manual (like 5 or 7k) recomends, but others do it earlier. I plan to swap it out after the 1000 mile break-in.

All I received with the car was an Owner's Manual. I didn't see anything in it dealing with maintenance schedule. What is the recommended mileage for first oil change?

This page should help. https://owner.ford.com/tools/account/maintenance/maintenance-schedule.html#/ymm/2019/Ford/Mustang/63

It breaks down to really just change it when your Oil life meter tells you too. I plan to do mine every 5k no matter what, just bceause it makes me feel warm and fuzzy.

There is no requirement to change the oil at an early interval, assume no break-in oil in the car.. Most dealers recommend 8,000km, but mine won't be driven much, and not in the winter. I got my Bullitt last July and just did the first service at 2,800 km. The Ford Pass app was telling me I had about 44% oil life left. Probably as a result of a few relatively short drives through the winter on Sunny days....

Ordinarily, I do a change at 1K miles on a new engine (someone mentioned the oil filter that comes with the car is smaller than normal; anyone know for sure?). But, the dealer I bought my Bullitt from offers 'Oil Changes for Life,' every 5 mos or 5K miles. I'm putting about 500-600 miles/month on my car, so first change will be at about 2.5K miles (yeah, I know they want me to come in so they can sell me undercoating, etc.).

I did all the oil changes on my '08 Bullitt, and the 7 other cars and 2 tractors I maintain, but this lessens my load a bit and disposing of 10qts of oil ETHICALLY is now a challenge (when I lived in San Jose, CA, the city would provide gallon jugs for used oil and plastic bags for filters and pick up at the curb; no mas after I moved to the Central Valley).

For those still on the fence about using ceratec - I put it in my 2014 Mazda 6 to test it out first with NO issues! Got another mpg actually. Thus far, nothing weird going on with the Bullitt either. Whisper quiet.
