It's bad enough that a troll starts these ridiculous threads, it's even worse when clowns interject their politics.
Excuse me Bubba. Best you backup. I dont’s see any clown here unless you are speaking of yourself. The Tarrifs will impact sales and the way auto makers think. I was driving Mustangs while you where still crapping in your diaper.

Haha that would be impossible "kid" since I was 6 years old when the first mustang was sold. Look, you and the other guy are new here, you get the benefit of the doubt. You want to talk politics, go elsewhere.

I went to a tech symposium for a major Tier I supplier for the industry a couple weeks ago. They supply valvetrain components, transmission components, hybrid system components, electric motors. So basically, they have fingers in every pot and not a lot of incentive to spin towards one or the other.

They project that by 2030....

  • 70% of vehicles sold globally will have an ICE (40% will be hybrids, 30% will be straight ICE)
  • 70% of vehicles sold globally will be electrified (40% will be hybrids, 30% will be Battery Electric Vehicles)
For the US they project the ICE + Hybrid number to be a little higher than the rest of the world...76% combined volume of ICE and Hybrid. We already know that Mustang will be part of the Hybrid volume and is safe to assume that Mustang will also continue to be part of the ICE volume. Mustang and Camaro will be fine. Corvette will be fine. Challenger will depend on if FCA has the funds and the priority to replace the current platform with something new or an adaptation of the Alfa Romeo Giorgio platform.

For what it’s worth, 2020 - 21 will be the year to watch for EVs. To date EVs have been electrified econoboxes or Tesla. In 2020 - 21, we’ll start to see high volumes of EV crossovers (Jaguar I-Pace, Mercedes EQC, BMW iX3) lux sedans and even sports cars (Porsche Taycan). Battery tech is improving rapidly, costs are coming down, and so are recharge times. When customers start to see EVs available in the configurations they really want to buy, from manufacturers who know how to produce cars in high volume, they’ll become a lot more mainstream.

People who are overly concerned about the charge time aspect may not realize that with EVs, you basically wake up every morning with a full tank. In the case of the newer EVs, that means you wake up with more than 200 miles of range. Since most of us do not drive more than 200 miles on any given day, most people will do ALL their charging at home. On the occasion where longer trips are needed, Fast Charge stations are getting better tech and will be capable of adding 90 miles of charge in roughly 20 minutes. Considering this might be something an EV owner has to do maybe once every couple of months (as opposed to 3 gas fill ups every 2 weeks), many will accept the trade-off.

So by 2030 there will be 140% of vehicles sold globally must be some kind of new math

I have to research ICE, as I have only heard this term in drug culture. I have withdrawn from most of society due to the bickering daily of the most unimportant issues. I enjoy my mustang, 39,500 miles and no issues. Internal combustion for me. Sounds like Heaven.

It's funny - my local news had a similar report with similar timing. Many of the facts were wrong, because they had to be in order to make the point they wanted to make. August sales figures had come out before the article was released, and August Mustang sales were high. There's a deliberate and organized attempt being made to sell this "fake news".

THe Mustang is not a practical car for more than 2 persons and a limited amount of gear and in snow. People today want space for friends, kids, dogs, and gear. A lot of buyers of these cars treat them as toys or fair weather cruisers. The MAGA crowd likes to tell you that the economy is better than it has ever been but fact is, middle class wages and buying power are STILL lagging far behind so a lot of people don't have piles of cash laying around to buy a fair weather cruiser plus a loaded SUV. Also, the price of a GT is now in the 40k range and pushing 50 for a loaded out convertible...that is a LOT of money when you could buy a very nice luxury car for that price. Plenty of BMWs, Lexuses, etc are in that range and even trucks so there is an awful lot of very practical luxurious options available for the same price. People don't want to be haggling with knocking engines, failing a/c systems, and vibrating drivelines at that price.
True.

Good Lord, the Chicken Little "sky is falling" attitudes here are hilarious!!!! The ICE isn't going anywhere, it's still the most efficient way to move people, and actually much "greener" than electric.

This thread is a laugh. So many people wailing that Mustang sales are down, and it means the EOTWAWKI.

Relax......

You can stick your "benefit of the doubt" where the sun doesn't shine.

New or not, I don't need a free pass from you or anyone else. Try not being an angry old grouch for a change. Not sure who you think you are.....you aren't.
