seems we just need to throw these cars off the side of a cliff, or are the dealers just replacing them to replace them to charge ford for the warranty work? hmmm
Because not everyone has it and he's right that it's something to do with loose tolerances. If you pay that much money for a new car, it shouldn't sound like a clunker. If every 5.0 sounded like this, then it'd be one thing. The fact that not everyone has the tick shows that there's some variable that hasn't been identified. Could be harmless or could be catastrophic. Just saying it's normal isn't gonna help anyone.I've seen this guys videos. He has the same idle tick that everyone has but he's convinced it's a major issue. Why do you think the second engine did it as well? All 2018+ 5.0s have the unsteady idle tick. His 3rd engine will do it too.
Nothing to see here imo.
I think you're confusing the 2300 RPM death rattle with this idle tick. The rattle is definitely a problem, the tick is probably not. Do you even own a 2018 GT? Most people are saying they have the idle tick.Because not everyone has it and he's right that it's something to do with loose tolerances. my 2016 had the bbq tick which sounded identical. I brought it in for service and the service advisor who met me at the drive in garage said they definitely heard it. Then the tech who started working on it could not reproduce it. I asked if I could do it for them and they told me that the car was already at the body shop. A month later and 4 bad warranty repaints later, I traded it in.I think you're confusing the 2300 RPM death rattle with this idle tick. The rattle is definitely a problem, the tick is probably not. 1) My 2016 was not a DI engine, hopefully you know that. It had the same ticking sound and I'd argue that the DI isn't the cause since not every 2018 Mustang has it.why do you think the rattle or the tick is an issue? what other DI four cam engine are you guys basing this on? TO THIS DAY no one has been smoking or dropped a piston because it rattles, and ticks no one even seems to be using excessive oil...mines been rattling loudly on and off since I noticed it a 500 miles,i have 4 k on latest oil change and i'm down 1/2 quart with about 12 passes at dragstrip on the change, i'm getting 18 mpg on e-85 and I drive 90 miles a day at 80 mph to work..ford tries to tell people its not a problem and people don't believe them even though their cars have no issues.. what the hell is wrong with you people? You don't have anything to compare it to!!!The rattle and tick is an annoying BUT NORMAL trait with this engine. trust me if your ring tolerances are off it will smoke and use oil, lose mileage and power ,no need to buy a scope and please send in the video of it because I want to see it.
how do u KNOW its not normal, how do you know its not harmonics from the fuel pump, theres zero evidence its not normal and tons of evidence it is and the 18's tick as well1) My 2016 was not a DI engine, hopefully you know that. 2) I had a Mazdaspeed3 which was DI and although you could hear the HPFP, it never sounded like any of these videos.
Why do I think it's a problem? Because a metallic clunk/tick isn't a normal sound for a healthy engine.
Each engine replacement costs Ford about 10k. Each buyback costs them the same. They're not just gonna approve new short/long blocks and buybacks if they didn't think there was a problem here. This is Ford. They're a very cheap company when it comes to warranties.how do u KNOW its not normal, how do you know its not harmonics from the fuel pump, theres zero evidence its not normal and tons of evidence it is and the 18's tick as well
we do not know. Thats why we give it to professionals. Everybody wants their car to last long with a health engine. I agree to the fact that ford wouldn't spend even $1 unless it is really necessary. the brand doesn't really matter, no dealer would replace anything unless it is necessary.how do u KNOW its not normal, how do you know its not harmonics from the fuel pump, theres zero evidence its not normal and tons of evidence it is and the 18's tick as well
Ford buys back cars because of dissatisfaction as well, cheaper for them to take a 2 grand hit and be done with it,.... i'm saying the cars are fine, the dragstrip time slips are proof ,my oil consumption is proof, wheres the video guys proof that its not normal, has he dynoed it or ran it at drags and its slowing down? is he using excessive oil? are the mechanics doing leakdown tests or just guessing, like the one post where a tech replaced the valve train and didn't fix it ?the engine is new to them as well.. I have seen one single picture with some discoloration on a cylinder wall that was too high up to be piston slap and nothing else, but guys not liking the noise, I don't like the noise, but there's nothing wrong with the engine. I do agree that ford needs to provide everyone some info and that's the only thing that's screwy about the whole deal.I read these threads just to see If ford has made an announcement but none ever comeswe do not know. My car is at the dealer too. It has been a week and finally mechanics were able to check my car on saturday. I got a call and they stated that, they heard it and waiting for a reply from FORD. I guess they didn't think that it is normal.
There have been 2 guys with piston scuffing, 2 guys with full engine failures (one dropped a valve), at least 2-3 guys with high oil consumption, and about 50% of 2018 owners reporting a rattle from 2k-3k rpm. We don't know if it is or isn't an issue at this time. Ignoring it certainly isn't a great solution. If you have the rattle, it is best to at least take it in and have it reported to Ford. With enough complaints, they will be pushed into putting out an official statement or TSB. Right now, some dealers are saying it is normal and others are very concerned. No consistency, so I doubt Ford has communicated much.Ford buys back cars because of dissatisfaction as well, cheaper for them to take a 2 grand hit and be done with it,.... i'm saying the cars are fine, the dragstrip time slips are proof ,my oil consumption is proof, wheres the video guys proof that its not normal, has he dynoed it or ran it at drags and its slowing down? is he using excessive oil? are the mechanics doing leakdown tests or just guessing, like the one post where a tech replaced the valve train and didn't fix it ?the engine is new to them as well..
