I know it's a Dodge, but why doesn't anyone mention the fastest 0-60 production car (2.3 sec), fastest 1/4 mile production car (9.65 sec), and the only production car that will actually pull the front wheels off the ground?
I thought I did.

Hmm... that is on race gas with those times.. But, it's still impressive on regular gas. The Demon will get props but at the same time, it will always have the stigma of a one trick pony. ZR1 on the other hand can pull 1.2 G's while running 10.6 1/4.. that's stupid impressive lol

Pretty close eh? The weight difference makes all the difference between these two cars.
The ZL1 is impressive for sure. Curious what is the price and weight is on this ZL1? Looks like it has about $20K worth of carbon fiber through out.

The top end corvette vrs the GT 500 really isn't an apples to apples comparison. However, nice numbers are nice numbers which can not be denied. Will be interesting to see actual no.'s for the GT500 for sure.

Are we really comparing a Ford GT rival to a mustang here? I am confused. What is next? GT500 vs McLaren 720S ?

I don't think anybody is talking about a Ford GT, they are talking about a Mustang GT and Mustang GT500.

Seriously. The ZR1 accelerates faster than a Ford GT and some actually think the GT500 will compete with it :headbonk:

Not sure your point, I am sure you have heard of the Mustang CobraJet..?

Again, GT cars are typical not drag cars. Matter of fact, during racing a Ford GT rarely sees below 60MPH and only comes to a stop for pits, etc. Not following your point of bringing a Ford GT into this conversation?

Yeah, the Ford GT's natural abilities allow it to accelerate to 0~60 in 2.9 seconds. (& that is it's weak point). But you might want to look at the 0 ~ 100mph times and the 70~140mph times and the 0 ~ 200mph times of the ZR1. It is no Ford GT!

Subsequently, the Mustang GT500 will have enough horsepower and torque to out accelerate a ZR1, (oddly/ironically, because GT500 will have more HP & TQ than a Ford GT), the only issue is putting those horse to the tarmac.

Lastly, who buys a full-on race car, to worry about it's 0 ~ 60 times..? Seems trivial.

FWIW:
I myself, place more importance on the 70~140mph blasts, as a true test of a car's makeup.

Ideally, tarmac conditions & pieces of street gravel won't be factored in, and/or loosing traction when trying to test/compare from a standstill. I would even prefer a rolling 5mph~70mph times.

But, I do think 70~140mph blast test everything about a car's acceleration capabilities (aero/engine/transmission/cooling). And a 140~0mph braking would be awesome to include.

Because we are talking about the ZR1, which is a competitor to the Ford GT.

While the GT500 will have more power than the GT, we don't know if it will have more than the ZR1, but even if it does, it will be much heavier and likely have a much larger, draggier frontal area.

So it's still pretty ridiculous to compare the GT500 to the ZR1. I'm not sure what your point was about bringing up the CobraJet. Thr GT500 is not a purpose built drag racing car like the CJ.

Who gives a shit? The ZR1 is awesome. The GT is awesome. Hopefully the GT500 will be awesome. The ZL1 1LE is awesome.

We just all need to rejoice that we aren't stuck driving Chrysler products.

Not really. The ZR1 wasn't/isn't/can't be raced at LeMans. If a car is to compete with the GT - it must compete at LeMans. Winning LeMans was the #1 express purpose of the Ford GT and it was stated over and over by the top people at Ford that the GT was intended to win there. What racing series is the ZR1 in?

You are a bit lost, if you think the Ford GT and the ZR1 are in the same category. The ZR1 achievements are short track. I find your comparisons ridiculous.

I just fail to see your over all argument, as the supercharged Corvette ZR1 has 755hp/715tq, and we know the GT500 will have close to that. Both cars can roast their tires to 60 mph...

Not sure what the fuss is about.

Wouldn't these cars be considered 2 different classes considering the price tag alone? We're anticipating the GT500 at 80k and the ZL1 is what.. 125k base model? I would say if anything if the GT500 is even close to the ZL1 it's a big win and if it beats it.. well
