The difference being that a GDI engine can't use its fuel as a solvent for even that relatively small volume of oil.

Well they learned from the Ecoboosts.Since the new ZR1 has dual fuel i bet whatever engine goes in the C8 gets dual fuel too. I was all for Direct Injection 4 years ago then you start seeing pictures of the build up it's really a turn off. I'm glad Ford did it the right way and hopefully we'll have evidence in a year or so that the valves have stayed clean.
Tied does not mean faster, what about all the other times everywhere else? I'm sure the GT350R is faster. On the Big Willow lap time they are tied. The GT350R is prob a little faster IMO. But the 1LE being that close is pretty impressive.
The fact that it is that close is a loss for Ford.I don't think they were run the same day so its not a direct comparison.
Definitely track times can get some people to buy or at least try the Camaro. I went out and test drove a Camaro to see whether I liked it or not. I found a used 2016 2SS manual car to try that the previous owner dumped and got a Corvette instead. I think the Camaro is a good car, but I like my Mustang more. And not just a little bit more. I was very happy to jump back in my two year old Mustang and drive it back home. The fact that it is that close is a loss for Ford.
IE, copying what Toyota started more than a decade ago.The maps were posted here ages ago, at idle, and quite a few revs beyond, the car is just at PI. The DI comes in when it's needed. Clean as a whistle I'd say. Ford have learned from all the others with DI and done it right.
Meh, my company was the first to do gasoline direct injection in automotive applications over 60 years ago. None of it is that new.IE, copying what Toyota started more than a decade ago.
Some of you guys REALLY need to look at automotive tech besides what happens on the mustang.
No, performance stats aren't the only thing. Not in this car vs comparison or in one, maybe two, of the choices I make before it even gets to the car vs car level.Must mean that the numbers by themselves aren't the only thing people care about when buying a car, huh?

There's about 25,000 members here, and I doubt that road course lap times mean much to even 1% of that. And it's probably reasonable to assume that site membership here is somewhat more enthusiast-oriented than the average Mustang customer including non-members who walks in some showroom door.

It isnt a loss for Ford if they arent taking money off MSRP. Which is what is happening to every camaro except maybe the ZL1 1LE. Yes, even the ZL1 is getting discounted. The fact that it is that close is a loss for Ford.
True Norm.
If you have some miles on you like me at 58...
All that can truly be said is that it was a moral victory for Chevy. That comparatively the 1LE punched above its weight (i.e. price or exclusivity) class. The fact that it is that close is a loss for Ford.
