damaged rear tire

I have a big screw in my rear tire that is beyond repair and Ford is replacing it for me. I have 5000 miles on the car. Should I pay for another rear tire to keep the tread the same or don't worry about it?

if the extra $400 will not be an issue I would do what Zombo said. Your rear tires are your power and then you will have equal tread and traction.

If it's just a street driven car with no track days/burn outs, Michelin super sports should last around 30k miles. If it were me, I'd just replace the one, and when time comes to change out all 4, switch to the new Michelin P4S tires, and keep the most recent tire as a spare for emergencies. I ended up buying road hazard warranty for $180 @ america's/discount tire after the 2nd near-unrepairable nail in both rear tires.

thanks for the replies, I just drive it around town on the weekends, have had it a year and average a little over 400 miles a month.

Really, 30K miles? Wow, I was expecting half that. Glad I moved my OEM tires to my new wheels, instead of getting new tires.

Thanks! However, the way I read the fine print, we only get a 15K mile warranty on the rears because the GT350 has a "split fitment".

Just saw that too. I guess I'll find out how long they'll really last on the street. Should've just went with a squared setup when I went after market.

No way Jose, that is very wishful thinking. I swapped my tires at 11K miles and the rears were 80% worn (was measuring tread and keeping track from the start). I drive fairly normal and I would expect the rear tires to go maximum 16K miles, and the fronts maybe 22-23K.

Picked up a roofing nail in my right rear at 1k miles, right on the shoulder too...Nitrogen fill road hazard warranty that the dealer comped me with stated replacement up to $150 value, but I was lucky that my dealer was straight up and covered it 100%.

I guess it depends. On my previous car, 2005 330i, I had a set of MPSSs last for about 30k (a bit more actually). It was street driven and a lot lighter though (3400lbs or less),less torque/power as well. They were basically slick tires when I replaced them with a new set. I suspect we might not get 30k miles out of a set on the GT350. I will be happy with low 20s

Oh wait no burnouts, well that would explain my tires.

I got 16,000 on my rear tires - except part of the time I had snow tires on the car, so it was certainly less than 16,000. And they were well into the wear indicators when I replaced them.

No burnouts, 1 (abbreviated) track day, but I think I'm burning front tires more than rears at the road course.
