Tell me why anyone in their right mind would pay $30k over sticker for a R car. First off, Ford charges you to remove stuff to make it lighter. Then if you want it back, they charge you again to put it back. So then, it is almost the same as the regular GT350 and is heavier. The main differences are the spring rates, tires and wheels.

So do you buy the car just to show off to your buddy's, hey look at me?

What is your reason for paying so much more money?

Either stop trolling or do some research/search this forum. All you want to know in your post has been discussed many times here.

You might not get the gist of the R. ;)

There are better deals out there than $30K. An acquaintance just got an R, on which he "only" paid a $5K ADM. He got to order it to his specs, and I saw it for the first time yesterday.

(Best part is he drove it home from Ohio and it was filthy when I saw it. And he had some tire blazing fun in the parking lot adjacent to the dealership. )

You don't have to pay that much. They can be had for 10K, however most will ask 20.

Why you ask? In a few short words....Rarity and collectability.

And I agree, a very trollish question.

I think most people aren't paying that much, but the obvious reason people will pay more than MSRP is the GT350R is an amazing car.. much better than any other cars you can get for the price. And that is true even with paying somewhat of a premium.

Meanwhile ZL1s are selling for under MSRP. People don't think a ZL1 is worth the price GM put on them, however people think that the GT350 is worth MORE than the price Ford put on that car. Very simple, really.

Let me know if I can explain this in more detail to you. :ford:

Some people have a lot of money as well and don't give a fuck. Happy to pay more for something they want. The real value in a product is what someone is willing and wanting to pay for it.

Nothing wrong with that.

The difference between GT350R vs. Camaro ZL1 market can be described as a good lesson in non-Government controlled free market economics, but doesn't exactly explain how it happened. It's a lesson that should be embraced and used to learn how even bigger things work out in the real world.

Then go drive one and you'll understand how it happened.

If you don't like the ADM, simply don't pay it and move on. The problem with getting a ZL1 (or Corvette, for the matter) is timing the massive discounts that always come. It's backwards ADM, and quite comical. I'd be pissed if I bought a ZL1 at sticker, and then hear stories of people buying them at $10K under. Shit, you can get a vette at $20K under sticker. That's just ridiculous.

I think you're missing the OP's question. He's not asking why there's ADM's. He's asking why anybody would pay ADM for minimal differences from the base model. I think the MSRP delta is appropriate for the equipment differences, e.g. wheels, tires, aero. But his question is what motivates someone to pay a 45% mark-up for relatively small driving experience or performance improvements.

My answer is that it's only due to exclusivity. And the speculating that's also driving ADM's is rooted in this exclusivity.
