Schroth Quick Fit vs Watson or Cool Tech cage

Aside from the obvious difference in protection will I be happy with the way the Shroth Quick fit works. I am on the fence about installing either of the cages. I am not sure how many trackdays or events I am going to do at this point. I would like some feedback or advice if anyone wants to give it.

I only have experience with Watson Racing, but I can tell you that their bar is excellent quality, fits well. Watson's customer service is also top notch. You can't go wrong with their bar in my opinion.

I have the Schroth QuickFit, and it works perfectly for its purpose: To hold me firmly in my seat during track days, but also to be easily removable so that I can take my wife and kids to the local cruise-ins on Saturday nights. If I didn't need the back seat ever, I'd probably go with a rollbar. Different tools for different jobs, though.

Well, that was my thought as well. I don't need my backseat in my R but I like the idea of it being removable. Is there any restrictions at events for not having a roll bar that you know of? I would assume I would be ok at club events etc.?

That really depends on the group hosting your track days, and/or on the track itself. The group I generally run with is very lenient, and several participants use 4-point harnesses. I know that several groups and tracks do not, however. (In fact, I think the Porsche Club of America forbids 4-point harnesses, but I could be wrong about that.) Check with the local group putting on the track days near you to see what they will allow... That may make the decision for you. :cheers:

Ohhh- that's good to know! Do you need to take out the front seats and can you leave back seats in?

Sorry if this has been convered- new owner shopping for parts before R arrives!

FYI - the Watson Racing bar is also easily removable.
I strongly disagree. To remove it, you need to pop off both sides of trim. Remove three main bolts from either side. Unbolt the rear brace bars at the joints and the landing plates. That would require you to either hold the nut bars underneath the car or secure them in some other way while you remove the rear braces and then resecure the bolts. Then you have to get the main hoop out, which I'd really recommend you do without the seats in it and that takes a little more time to remove and reinstall.

All in all, it takes hours. Easily is subjective though I suppose but it's not something you're going to be doing every other weekend.

I've just rad that install and certainly above my comfort zone- I'd also damage something else in process!

The landing plates can come out without removing the reinforcing bars under the car. Have you actually done this, or just making assumptions?

Hours is a long time. Are you sure it will really take you hours? I'm thinking more like 1/2 hour with hand tools and less time if you use power tools.

There are track day groups that disallow a 4-point harness? Are they listening to themselves? They're disallowing added safety? What????? I'd tell them to F off unless it was a class requirement, which HPDE certainly should have very little of other than treadwear rules just to keep things paced.
