Me crazy, and I can't help myself
I found a guy selling a brand new set of 4 for $760. Aesthetically i like the look but it still feels like such a waste of money to spend $800 just to change the color.

Am i crazy to pass these things up?

Not crazy if you dont like them, but you can always sell the stock units to recoup most of the cost.

G2 paint.
Yes i've thought long and hard about this but something to me just seems wrong with buying a 65K car and hand painting the calipers and putting stickers on them from eBay. To each their own but if I'm going to do it I'm going to do it right.

I mean either way you can achieve it. In reality the red R Calipers are painted as well so your doing the same thing as they are.

Or you go all out and powdercoat them.

I'm doing mine brushed with a special tinted color because im loopy.

99% sure the R calipers are powder coated from the factory

Brembo uses among other steps, pre-treatment spray, epoxy primer, polyurethane paint and transparent acrylic paint. They use paint booth & baking oven.
Reprainting Brembos is very popular in Japan and Europe. Brembo doesn't recommend aftermarket painting though.

It is clearly evident in your posts that you want the R calipers. You are trying to rationalize both for and against - a noble effort. But in the end what matters is that the factory red Brembos just look damn good. Take the bull by the horns and make it happen. You can move your original units for a fair price by selling them to someone looking to custom color powdercoat, making the switch even more reasonable. Also a great opportunity to add other caliper hardware at the same time that can make your car even more track worthy.;)

Good to know, that explains why it is so thick. Mine had a minor knick and since I was so thick it looked like powder

Good advice. Epiphany, what lug nuts are you using with your 6gr wheels?

If painting, brushed is the only way to go. Spray does not yield the same finish in my experience.

I agree! Its a lot of money for the same calipers just different color. I'm' biased though and prefer the less flashy look, Incognito.
