I am interested to see someone with a 2016 put on the Roush hood vents. I know I don’t need to see a blinker on the hood.
Hopefully soon....

edit: hope to have the car back maybe Wednesday next week... 7/13

Not sure if you guys can wait or not but I know that the guys at Trackspec are working on both a larger cut in central hood vent solution and matching drop in hood vents for the OEM heat extractor locations. I am sending them a hood to use to fabricate the vent kit and complete the S550 vent design.

The OEM heat extractors are very restricted in there design since they are more concerned with water infiltration than actual heat extraction. I am planning on running the full 4 pc vent kit from Trackspec as soon as it is available to me.

I am shipping out a lightly damaged hood to them on Monday and they say they will get on it ASAP. These things always seem to take longer then they should but I would guess I will have a test piece to try sometime near the end of this season. As soon as I get it in my hands they will be installed. I need to vent the hood to complete the rest of my under care aero.

These guys have been good to work with so far so lets hope they get on it and get the S550 hood vents done. Send them an email and let them know you have interest. May make them move a little faster.

I have finished the safety and mechanical systems, brakes, fire system, cage, seats, harnesses, suspension, oil pan, headers, and radiator ducting.

I am in the process of building the exhaust today and tomorrow, then I will start on a functional rear diffuser. The splitter is already done. Then the last thing is to join the two ends of the car with flat removable panels and figure out how to get air to go where we want it. Last step will be a wing if needed to balance the aero.

Next test day is 7/20 so have to do things in steps in order to have time to make each event.

First event went well with just the safety and suspension mods complete. Car did fine but my test track is Gateway International and we run two of the Nascar turns and main straight then dive into the infield road course. I was able to dial in the suspension with minor shock changes but I did find an issue I will need to address soon. The car would fuel starve coming out of the left hand high banked turn. Even with over a half a tank of fuel the car would loose fuel pressure at the end of the banked turn. I am going to run the stock fuel tank as long as I can so I may need to add some fuel safe foam to close off most of the tanks hump in the middle to stop the fuel from sloshing to the other side of the tank. On the topic of cooling, it was 99*f that day and the car performed without any temp issues. The PP rad is very capable if you duct it properly and remove the AC condenser from in front of it. Coolant temps never exceeded 225*f even with ambient temps at 99*f. I am expecting a 5-7 degree drop in temps once the hood vents are in place. Diff temps, trans temps, and oil temps will need to be addressed if I decide to do anything longer than a sprint race.

This is so awesome! Do you have a build thread or a way that any of us that are interested could follow your progress? I'd love to take my car to this point.

On the cooling discussion... what have you done as far a ducting for the cooling system?

No build thread yet, I will have a racing journal and build info on our projects page on our website when I have time to sit down and write everything down. I have tons of pics as the car was being built and want to get a little closer to being done before I share everything.

I relocated the battery and the coolant bottle so there would be more room up front, I remounted the top of the radiator forward about 20* and built fiberglass ducting to seal off all the airflow from the grill openings and force it all to go through the rad. I also replaced the GT PP grill for the Ecoboost grill as the open area is much larger than the PP grill.Once the ducting was built and installed we have had zero issues with coolant temps, and the OEM oil cooler is doing a reasonable job as long as you are doing short sessions, 25 min or less and oil temps stay in check. I will see what happens on longer stints and may need to add an additional oil cooler. Having the Moroso pan with its extra 2.5qts of oil should help extend the time on track a little as well. Adding the hoods vents should help extend it some more too.

This thread is to help gain cooling efficiencies in all systems on S550 track cars.

I think I'll most likely end up adding a rear diff cooler back here as well.
Any news on a rear diff cooler. I haven't found anything available. Was at the track this weekend and had the diff temp warning light come on a couple times.

Not from me. Since I switched to Amsoil 75w110, I haven't had the warning anymore so it has not been an urgent matter for me. I've also been traveling the last month. I have been looking at pumps though and will probably buy one soon. I'm sure I have a cooler sitting around that will work. I was planning on doing a track day tomorrow, but after the wife's BMW battery died today, I may just stay home and work on the mustang some.

I think Tim at Optimum Performance has something in the works though.

And I need a GT350 to crawl under. The plan for the GT is about done, was hoping to make it work for the Shelby but the undertray is a problem. I started stocking the 75W-140 BG Ultra Guard in the mean time because you guys that switched seem to have good luck with the higher viscosity oil not turning the light on.

Diff cooler

This is a little premature, because it will take me a few weeks to complete, but I'm starting my diff cooler project today:
Setrab cooler, roughly the size of a tag plate
Plugs in diff are 1/2 NPT, I've checked
Cheap eBay 2gpm gear pump
Cheap eBay electronic temp controller to switch on pump
-AN8 fittings and lines

Think I'll put the cooler in that space as shown in pic

Will keep you updated as I struggle along. Lol

I'm running the Amsoil 75w110. Had a fresh fill last weekend.

Interested to see the results. Do you think there is enough airflow at that location? How will you get the correct fluid level? I know on the GT350 they have an extra fitting to fill the fluid. I've been wondering how to do this with the GT fittings.

Be careful with the Cheap eBay 2gpm gear pump. You may get what you pay for.
