Yeah have not seen any hard data on the aFe filter flow rates to say either way. I actually believe the stock air filter flows really well. Just cant clean it and its expensive right now.Another option to the K&N is the AFE dry filter. You can't service it but it last longer and is "supposed" to flow better.
I'm like you though, I run a K&N because I know the factory filters are garbage and as long as you service the oiled filter correctly it's going to last you forever.
