I got tired of waiting on an aftermarket pillar pod. So, last week I began mocking up my own. I used a 2" PVC street elbow and cut the larger end off using a bandsaw. I then cut that end to fit the contour of the factory A pillar, but at an angle I could read the face of a gauge. Once the elbow fit the pillar I made some flat sides and a face plate out of a file folder. Then I used masking tape to cover the pillar and the pieces I had made. This gave me a mold to lay fiberglass.

This is the molded part after a layer of fiberglass, a layer of t-shirt material, a sanded layer of body filler and three sanded layers of black filler primer.

Here's the finished product. I threw a crappy gauge in just for size reference. I can't wait to get my AeroForce next week and get the pillar installed.

Nice! Can't wait to see what this looks like installed! If I had a lick of skill with fiberglass I would probably try to attempt the same!

Isn't there airbags in the pillar and that's why nobody makes a gauge pod for it?

Yes, there's a full side curtain air bag on both sides of the car. Im sure there are insurance issues associated with selling an A pillar pod. A final product would probably not be cost effective after all the safety testing and certifications.

I finally got the gauge installed and everything buttoned up.

I went with the brushed bezel and plain black face. Then I sanded and polished the bezel and made a small "GT" decal out of vinyl.

Analog 1 is oil pressure and Analog 2 is oil temp. I used aeroforce senders and mounted them in a sandwich plate. The gauge itself is hard wired into the car.

I thought so too, but never noticed the air bag symbol any where on it...

That's what I thought. That's just asking for trouble if something happens. Like shooting the gauge pod through your face.
That's what could happen. I wish there could be a pillar pod done. I don't like the ones Shelby does no the dash and I don't want to take out a vent and put in gauges there.
