I seriously doubt autometer ran that through deployment tests with airbags. The added mass of a gauge hitting your grape could be a very significant difference.

why would you wanna cover up the side airbags?

Then go for it. I hope you never get in a wreck, but if you do, could you have the presence of mind to update this thread?

I just wanted to update everyone regarding airbag/curtain deployment. I received mine yesterday and I would like everyone to know this gauge pod will be completely safe to use and the nay sayers can finally see how wrong they were lol.

First, I took my A pillar off to see exactly how it is secured. There are a couple push clips that snap into their respective holes in the A pillar and about 3" down from the top there is a plastic strap that hooks into a clip on the trim piece itself. Think of it as a chain lock on a hotel room door that only lets the door open so far, it does the same thing.

Now, the PDF directions that are viewable directly from the AutoMeter page are absolutely the WRONG directions. I think they are for the 11-14 years but I know they are NOT for 2015+ cars.

The AutoMeter Pod is exactly the same length as the factory A pillar so you do NOT cut your stock piece, you simply replace it with theirs. It uses a screw to attach to an existing plastic insert. Finally, it has a metal tab secured to the back side of it to attach the factory safety strap to give you the exact same safety mechanism as the stock piece. My guestimation is the screw is easily pulled out of the plastic insert by the airbag when deployed and the safety strap will stop it from flying off, just like the factory one. I also think the screw is used because the pod for the gauge and the relocation of the tweeter eliminate the ability for push clips to be used.

So to sum it up, this thing is really nice and I'm very glad I took the plunge and this will look killer once installed. Below is a picture of the mentioned safety clip on the back of it and the actual directions that came with it.

I won't get my new car for a few weeks and then won't be installing my Whipple till the winter so I won't have installed pictures till then.

Install was pretty straight forward, comes with a screw that tightens onto one of the clips behind the pillar. Those are the aero-force interceptor scan gauges and yes they do have a shift light if you want it to be turned on or not.

Will take some better pictures with better lighting when I get a chance. The speaker is retained and this pillar pod looks very close to OEM which is why it's priced at $100 most likely.

I have a EU/Asia spec mustang (in Japan) and like all of these models it's a PP sans the dash gauges. I was thinking about getting the PP dash, but maybe this is a better solution. Will the OEM PP gauges fit in this?

Also, any more pictures? I'd love to see this in better light. Also, the speaker treatment.

The oem gauges won't fit. They are one piece.

Actually, I spoke with Auto Meter a few months back about fitment for our vehicles. They told me it was in the works but it needed to be tested and approved first. I'll repost the email if I still have it.

How do you like those gauges? Do they dim down at all, like as in, tied to your factory dimmer switch?

LOL'ing at everyone worried about airbag interference. 1: The curtain airbag is a good ways rearward of the pillar pod, right by where your head is and not over the dash board.

2: The airbag comes out with enough speed and force to stop your head in a side impact/rollover, a few ounces worth of gauges won't slow/stop it in the slightest.

Looks like a nice piece, will have to pick one up myself soon.
