Yeah, that makes sense. However my chances are just for fun. I will never compete with anyone at the top of any class. It just seems funny to specifically call out the 1LE in the class and then make you downgrade your car to compete in it! I am here for fun. I want to mod the car for cruising fun with the wife or Camaro club. I know it will move me up in class and STP makes sense, but don't make me have to get narrower wheels to compete in it. I want to move to the Z28 wheels, not go narrower toward the regular SS. That's why I bought a 1LE! Who thinks up these rules???
Anyway....see you at Crows this year for the National Tour? I was next to Steve W last year. Was that you with your car?
they limited the 1LE for the same reason they limited all IRS cars (including the S550) - perceived overdog status against the stick axle cars on equal wheel/tire. i don't agree with the call, but i also understand why they made it - don't want to hand the class to much newer cars, especially when you can pick up an '11 GT for well under 20k these days. luckily, there will probably be a few top tier drivers (chris cox for one) in IRS cars, so i expect that their efforts will show in the long run that the perceived advantages of IRS aren't that drastic (if at all), especially in absence of an FD swap allowance (another significant disadvantage for the S550). time will tell!

i didn't make it to crows last year, because i didn't have my shocks in hand until june. i was there the year before though in my '13 GT in FS - are you gary? we met, if so. i know you were already thinking of picking up a '15 then, sounds like you were true to your word! [edit: nm, i see you were in a camaro then too, my bad! long day...]. i wasn't expecting to get into one so soon, but somebody rear ended my old car and it got written off. planning on all cali events in april (i'm in ESP though), assuming MCS can get my shocks redesigned/rebuilt/revalved by then. always something keeping my plans up in the air early in the season

Steve, I'll be down there that weekend as well, probably driving Scroggs' Focus, but eager to check out your new ride. /des
Hey Des, it's actually going to be the AAX event on the 23rd. Not exactly SFR and hope to see you there.

285/35/19 RE71R mounted to a 19x10" MRR M350 wheel. I should be able to get them on the car tomorrow depending on if it snows or not and I can bring my car down to work where the tires are now.

Yeah, me too. I was expecting them to be a little pinched so this is good!

Fuzzy pic but cool look at my car with the big meats on. #6 STP is about ready to get this season going! :ford:

There was slightly less than a piece of cardboard box gap between the tire and strut with the knuckle pushed all the way through the slop in the clevis bolts. There are also enough threads on the studs to get away with up to a 1/4" spacer and I might run with that. Although, no rubbing on the very brief drive up and down the street this morning.

Looking great Steve! I am getting super anxious to run my GT this year. I'm sticking with FS for a year or two though.

I'll occasionally go heads up against Simmons (and he'll smoke me without trying, even if I had a better car). It's still going to be fun.

Thanks, and hopefully you can keep the Otis' honest for a while! They have a new Camaro from what I've read.

Yeah, should be fun. We are both looking towards going to STP in a year or two. His car isn't eligible yet. I'm waiting for the ruleset to work itself out. Hoping for 11 inch wheels for all plus gear changes would be nice. We'll see.

See ya in March!

Chris Cox and my car in grid at Marina. We were both making our first runs with the STP setups and brand new tires. He did about three sessions and me one. I believe we were within tenths of each other comparing first runs then he stretched that to around .7 with the extra seat time.

My car was so fun and the Marina site a large expanse of smooth, grippy concrete. My car had three drivers, Chris two and there were two or the other STP cars entered.

Awesome time and great group down there! Who doesn't love autocrossing in Jan :-)

Steve, I had to leave while you guys were still running but the car looked GREAT, and you were right on Chris's heels to boot. Super impressive for a shakedown cruise.

Nice picture and good driving. Chris has a year of experience fine tuning that car. You did good!

Thanks Des and Bruhop! Those were my first real runs on the RE71Rs even though I ran S550s in FS all last year. Delicious levels of grip and drivability but I have much to learn about them.

Bruhop, were you the one running the Camaro? Sorry I didn't get a chance to meet. I barely got to say hi to the driver of the yellow S550. It was a busy heat with three drivers in one car, lol.

Des, we made it into Monterey for sunset over the sea and a great dinner at the Grotto restaurant on Fisherman's Wharf. Overall, sweet January mini vacation day!
