According to Mustang & Fast Fords magazine dated April 2010 the 5.0 coyote engine began development in the spring of 2007 . The 5.0 was on sales in Mustangs in the fall of 2010 in the 2011 model year Mustangs. Development of the 5.0 Coyote predated the ls3 camaro.

The LS motor was originally in the mid 400s during its introduction. Merely tuned down for the old camaro. The Camaro was announced for a 09 return in 06 I think.

The Camaro concept was revealed in 2006 and confirmed for production in 2007, started production in early 2009.

The Challenger concept was also revealed in 2006 and went into production in 2008. 6.1L with 425 HP.

Keep in mind the GTO did come back for a bit with the LS1/LS2

It's clear why the cars, and their fans, have been rivals do so long. That being said , the GM guys do not like the idea, despite how true it is, that the Mustang holds a special place in Americana. The Camaro, likely because it followed the Mustang to market, will never achieve the level of love and admiration that the Mustang has.

That's what I think bothers the bowtie folks the most; no matter how fast, how much power or how much tech that is put into the Camaro, it will always play second-fiddle to the Mustang in the hearts and minds of the general public.

I will never disagree with this. But they do use each other to make things better for us, but the Mustang will always be what people will remember most. Not much different when people hear Corvette, that's GM's Mustang.:cheers:

I can't agree more. The Ford GT is awesome. However I love the fact the corvette puts such a hurting on; well, everything. And fora fraction of the price.

I always say that this current iteration of pony car battle, and their standing against various imported performqnce brands is a reminder to the world of a point that was driving home some 60 years ago in WWII. Never doubt the potential and lethality of American manufacturing cability. We can build any just as good or better, and do it faster and cheaper than almost anyone.

No, you get warned (twice) for constant bashing the competition. Stating facts is fine, as above. Constantly calling GM/Camaro a POS or similar is not fine. There is a difference.

I think people should love competition. Not hate it. (Note I didn't say love THE competition.)

Could the Mustang be in the same spot if the Camaro didn't exist? Maybe. But it never hurts to have a competitor out there encouraging you to put your best product forward.

Who knows... You might be stuck with thinking that 350 hp is amazing right now if there was zero competition. Probably not, but just saying. I do believe that development cycles would be slower though.

I personally love embracing competition. Do I get a little heated in arguments sometimes? Yup. But that's what makes the Mustang/Camaro rivalry so awesome anyway.

I may be biased towards American muscle, but I can't think of another more iconic rivalry when it comes to two very different, yet similar vehicles. The fact that people can literally hate each other because of a vehicle shows just how strong that rivalry can be.

Could someone please forward a copy of the forum rules to me again. I've owned several Camaros over the years. I generally like Camaros. But I have no issue with people that absolutely hate Camaros stating that fact on this sight.:shrug: I'm a little perplexed why this is an issue? If Ecovert was going to a Camaro sight and popping off. I'd get it. It not like they are cutting the Mustang any slack over there.

Like I always said. This is a mustang forum. I never visit any other forums and I can only imagine the shit I'd receive if I went on the camaro / Porsche/ corvette/ challenger etc forum is I said how good the gt350 is.

I didn't in any of the messages removed call gm or camaro a POS or a piece of junk I have refrained from doing so a long time ago. What I did say and maybe to vigorously that Mustang or Ford didn't need camaro or gm to innovate or improve.
