Stay with your current order only if you get a signed contract (as in legal with recourse) laying out the entire price structure and all promises made. Otherwise you are going to be very unhappy in two months.
Just an update. I decided to listen to the greater forum, as I should have done when I was there. They pushed back but I insisted that I technically (in writing) requested cancellation and refund before vin was created (the day before), and that it’s not my fault the guy who does orders wasn’t there. They pushed back and I wasted some time to see if my other order with the much better dealer would schedule the rest of last week or today/yesterday, but it did not. I texted the sales guy and followed up to my last unanswered cancellation request email this morning saying I want to cancel as originally requested. Got my $500 back.

That being said, I’ll now be stuck waiting for my other order to schedule. I still think it’s crazy that 5 days after placing my first order, it was scheduled. I feel crazy for cancelling, but I agree, the dealer would have found a way to screw me over. The bright side of this is my deposit (which they never actually processed lol) at the other dealer is fully refundable. This gives me some time to see if I can find a 2021 gently used with all the options I want prior to taking delivery. I have a feeling the market is going down (watching the value of my old car decrease before I sold it to them definitely made it look like it), so we’ll see.

For me I simply applied a Z plan discount when I went to the dealership to test drive my custom built car. Not sure why you needed to put a discount into the order ahead of time. maybe I am missing something.

They wanted a nonrefundable deposit, couldn’t confirm xplan pricing, and I didn’t want to have to pay xplan pricing on the updated invoice in the event that there’s yet another price increase prior to production/delivery. The dealer originally pretended to not know what price protection was, so that’s where most of my concerns stemmed from.

Before I order anything I must know what the final price is. There has to be a contract on high priced items. That why any discount programs need to be applied at the time of purchase. Not doing so can put you in a very serious financial bind.

Good for you. I know it hurt to let go of the original car but in the end you will be glad you did. And who knows. Maybe the new order will get built quickly. They do seem to be moving more cars now. Fingers crossed!!

Not with cars.

You are under no obligation to buy the car a dealer orders for you. When I ordered my mustang my sales guy gave me the price with the discount and without it. If they decide to change the price when the car comes in I just won`t buy it.

The specifics of the plan have been discussed numerous times in this thread. Don’t concern yourself as you got an excellent deal.

it's just a "make them feel special like they got something" tool. If you're the kind that swallows the "$1 over invoice" schtick but then they tack on $800+ in doc fee, X-plan is helpful. I'm incredulous but it seems many people are horrible at negotiating and AZXD-plan is a "fixed price/no-haggle" arrangement that some strata of users appreciate.

ah, yeah, well it requires two things our culture has tried its best to destroy.
Patience and the willingness to say no are foreign concepts to most people in this day and age.

So you're willing to walk away from a car that you've waited three to four months for? Hardly makes any sense. I'll do the paperwork up front and know there will be no surprises when it's time to go get it.

Lots and lots of information in this thread.. some right and some wrong.

As someone who used to run a Ford dealership let's go over a few things.

First off X plan pricing generally speaking is a couple hundred bucks over MSRP and the dealer gets to keep the hold back. The doc fee used to be capped at $75 and now it is capped at $100. This saves you a good chunk of change at most dealers.

The dealership is under no obligation to honor X plan pricing and can just refuse the sale. This never used to happen. Because X plan was a free sale to them and most likely financing. Plus like I said they still get the hold back. Back in the day you could negotiate a better deal without X plan. Currently any dealer that has the allocation and that will take your X plan discount is going to be the best deal you can get hands down.

When creating a order they will not be able to generate a invoice immediately and that is where the X plan number is located. This takes a few days. Ask to see the invoice and whatever it says in the X plan box + $100 doc fee is your price. Some of the other plans will have a lower price those are for different things such as a corporate Ford employee. You don't get that price. That price is often times triple net.

Build the car. Ask them how long it will take to generate the invoice and when it's ready you can see for yourself what the price is.

With current allocations they are going to look elsewhere to make some money. Financing, addendum stickers, etc. Currently the dealer holds most of the cards sadly.

If it were me and I was shopping with X plan I would just call dealer after dealer with a canned line "Hey I am looking to order a new Mustang GT and my company Participates in the X plan pricing through Ford. Is this something you all have a allocation for and would be willing to honor that price with no additional add ons?"

Anything other than a firm yes and I would call the next guy. Might take a few calls though though lol. Inventory is tight.

If its between a " very serious financial bind" or having to walk. Yes I would have to walk lol. Yea it makes a lot of sense if it puts you in a bad way.

And you have to ask yourself this question. If you have a signed final price on your car and the dealership decides they do not want to honor the price. Are you really willing to take legal action? A dealership does not have to sell you a car either. That final price sheet is not a contract.
