Would this be possible for drive modes?

I would be willing to pay around $2,000 to $3,000 for a tune/dedicated switch or dial to set the drive modes with something like what is available on the Ford GT or most other car manufacturers. Could this ever be achieved through a 3rd party setup?

The engineers and designers at Ford that came up with the current system (or allowed it to happen) need to be written up and put on probation! It's horrible and dangerous in some situations.

No! At least not in my opinion. Especially compared to what I've used in other cars.

The toggles are kind of gimmicky for looks, hard to reach and only go in one direction.

A good example is if you want to switch over to rain/snow mode. You have to keep flipping that toggle up a number of times and pass by drag racing mode before landing on slippery conditions. Often people miss the one they are going for and have to cycle again.

This might be more apparent when driving the 10 speed as these modes have a major impact on the car's handling.

I design software systems for a living and would not allow something with such poor UX to go out the door.

The Ford GT has a perfect setup.

I dont change mine when driving so I havent noticed it being such an issue.

The switch is annoying in that its unidirectional, but not so much that I felt the need to post about it. Im sure if you had a wiring diagram for what the switch actualy triggered, it wouldnt be difficult to install a rotary style switch.

I agree I hate the switch location and that it only goes one way. How hard would it have been to put on the steering wheel?

Which of the 18 buttons would you like to replace?

Some folks have nothing going on in their lives I suppose. You'd pay 2-3 grand to have a non problem fixed?

Don't switch modes while in motion. Pretty simple "free" solution for you.

I do agree the toggles are a gimmick and they should go up and down. But it certainly isn't an issue needing several thousand dollar fix.

Its a lot. These steering wheels are already a cluttered mess.
While that may be I'd still rather have it there then next to the passengers knee. It's an awesome feature and I'm glad they added it but there are so many better ways to implement it

I hate to burst the op's bubble but even my explorer has a rotary dial to change driving modes, and it's bidirectional. And if you go past the mode you want, you just rotate the other direction.

Look, I get that the toggles are a throw back to the P-51 Mustang. I even kind of like that nostalgic touch. But yeah, they screwed up both the placement order and not being bi-directional.

Having said that, overall UX of Sync 3 and the rest of the cockpit is the best I've ever used.

And the Ford GT’s drive mode operation works how.......... care to elaborate?

Honestly, having owned a prior 2016 and having my 2018 w/10R80, choosing a drive mode has never been an issue... click it and choose... sure if you click too fast like a rabid animal you’ll PROBABLY pass the mode you want, but it’s no big deal..

The aerospace switches that our toggles are meant to represent also go in just the upward position, for safety. It's harder to accidently switch a switch up than down. I have no issue with it. Further, as you toggle through the modes, the software waits for debounce. The modes don't engage until you've stopped playing around with the button and settled on a mode. Of course, if you don't do it fast enough, it will engage the mode.
