Without taking a poll, what percentage remove the IMRC?

In this sub forum of V8 5.0 Engine / Mods, is it safe to say the majority of the IMRC's are removed?

I have a small business making 10R80 automatic transmission extended dipsticks, am doing research on adding another Ford model to my product line (which is only the Ranger currently)

The Mustang I got my hands on today as a test mule to use as mock up to make a dipstick, was a crazy high HP job with the IMRC removed, so before I go developing a dipstick just for no IMRC applications, I want to see what the demand may be.

At this moment there are 400+ members viewing this forum, being the Engine Mods section, I figured this would be a good place to ask about the IMRC.

There are a few things going on here, the Mustang 5.0 with an engine cover, is out, unless the customer wants to punch a big hole or chop off a corner, the cover and the dipstick wont work together.

There may also be a chance the 5.0 with the IMRC installed will be too tight to squeeze my full length dipstick past, plus I have to have a good place on the engine to mount a top bracket.

The right IMRC actuator 3 bolt bosses in the intake are a good option for me to securely mount a top bracket, otherwise I have the threaded stud off the cam cover, maybe a lower manifold bolt (but the bracket would have to be very tall) I'd prefer not to use the sensor or the coil bolts, there is not a lot of options to mount it (please don't suggest the firewall, I want to keep it on the engine)

So that leads me to consider the IMRC delete application as a reasonable choice to develop a dipstick for.

The ones I make for the Ranger are a plug and play, accurate fluid reading right out of the box, the customer does not have to mark it like with my competition, that's a bit of a funny statement, I'm a micro business, I'm so small they don't even know I exist, but I make a high quality -10 PTFE dipstick, I get hit up all the time to make them for other Fords, Mustang, F150, Bronco, etc.

In fact a member here encouraged me to go after the mustang next, so here I am asking questions!

How many of you members yank out all that stuff at the back of the intake?

And of those who have, how many would have interest in a extended transmission dipstick?

If anyone is curious, they can look at the details on the Ranger one I make: https://mikesbuildshop.com/

Here is a pic, it bolts on a unused bracket on the Ranger, the Mustang would be similar design, except a vertical mount.

Hey Mike ,

I was the member that contacted you to inquire about developing a 10r80 transmission dipstick for the Mustang guys as I came across your product and post on the Ranger forums .

I will be deleting my imrc's once the supercharger gets installed later this year.

I am probably by myself on actually liking the engine cover on the 2018+ gt's 😆 as most hate and remove it all together .

I'm going to be the guy that doesn't answer any of your questions, but says that I'd buy a pre-marked stick for a 10R80 '19 F150 today.

I'm trying, it was a toss up between the F150 and the Mustang, after a quick glance under the hood of a F150, I wanted to try the Mustang, the engine in the Mustang is not as far under the cowl.

But you are here, so you must have a Mustang, but you must also have the IMRC in place!

Found another Mustang, all stock 5.0, that will give me a good idea of the fitment options.

By the way it has been crickets here about pulling the IMRC, the hot rod I had yesterday must not be the norm.

That thing was mid 900hp to the tires, I don't know how easy that is for the newer 5.0, but damn, that HP would be a whole lot less streetable with my pushrod 5.0, his was pretty good at driving around at low speeds, he even had a tow hitch👍

There are companies that make them for the the F150 already . We need a solution for the Mustangs 🙃
Yeah, but they leave out the stick markings. Product fail.

My suggestions: 1.) Ditching or modding the plastic engine cover is fine, it's a nonfunctional decorative piece that many owners remove or don't care about.. 2.) Interfering with the IMRC is another issue, it's a functional component affecting the engine's performance during low demand, low RPM driving conditions and most owners probably wouldn't want to interfere with engine function just to facilitate a dip stick. If you can meet that second suggestion, sign me up to purchase a Mustang dip stick, something Product Engineering always wanted, especially for the 10R140 transmission program (along with drain plugs) but Dearborn vetoed for cost reasons.

Once again I show my ignorance. What is the IMRC?
Intake Manifold Runner Control. Its a system that narrows the intake runner opening at low rpm's to increase the intake air velocity. They are plastic and have plastic actuator rods and are prone to failure. Some people delete them/lock them out in NA builds, or centrifugal supercharged applications. Positive displacement superchargers do away with the stock intake, therefore the IMRC's are gone as well.
