What upgrading did you/he do ?

I see you have SYNC 3.3. I have SYNC 3.0 I wonder if that is the difference ?
Here’s what he did in his words.

“To the best of my memory, this is the route I followed that worked. I've tried to simplify this a bit, there was A LOT of guesswork here. I've dealt with small headless devices before, but this one takes the cake for lack of feedback, and using the main, very buggy, buggy channel as the primary upgrade channel.

0. If you already have a "car" in carplay for the CPlay2Air, make the iPhone forget it.
1. Download the firmware update file from here: https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0268/4171/0674/files/Auto_Box_Update.img?197
2. Save update firmware file on USB flash drive (Flash drive format must be FAT32)
3. Plug the flash drive into the CPLAY2air adapter.
4. Plug CPLAY2air to USB power charger/wall charger. Don’t use the USB port of the car or computer!!
5. Wait 2-3 minutes, until the red LED and the blue LED will light up at the same time.
6. Unplug the adapter from the USB charger and remove the USB flash drive from the adapter.
7. Plug the product into the USB port of the car.
8. Wait until the new window will appear on the vehicle's screen.
9. Connect your phone the to the WIFI SSID network which is shown on the screen.
10. Input 192.168.50.2 on your phone browser.
11. Once the software will be activated, unplug the device and plug it back in.
12. Wait for the new interface to appear on the car's screen
13. Connect your phone the to the WIFI network of the device
14. Input 192.168.50.2 on your phone browser (don't reuse the existing tab)
15. Follow the directions on the webpage to upgrade the device.
16. Once the upgrade is complete, unplug the device and plug it back in.
17. Wait for the interface to appear on the car's screen.
18. Connecct your phone via CarPlay to the device, it should show up as a new car.
19. Make sure to wait, the entire process from the device booting up, to the carplay connection takes 10-30 seconds.”

Well here is an incredible twist. The device now WORKS! After the failed attempts to get it working, no email response from the manufacturer and a requested return/charge back from the credit card company, I put the device back in its box and figured I was returning it. I had previously upgraded the device first via their USB method then when wirelessly connected via 192.168.50.2. I even tried the version that said for test and not to upgrade to. Then I saw @Michelle5150 's post and thought WTH. LOL. Since I had eventually received an email saying they were still working on the issue, maybe a newer firmware came out.

So yesterday, I tried it again. I had to re-pair from scratch as I deleted the bluetooth and wifi profile from my phone. So connect, do that, same results. For shits and giggles, I browse to 192.168.50.2 on my phone while 'supposedly' connected. It said another update to was available but to only use it if the device is not working. So I applied the update, device reboots (not the Sync3 system) and boom! Carplay screen on the Sync and Apple Music starts playing!! Tried Google Maps and Waze, both work as expected. Turn off power to the car, wait a minute or two and then fire her up! It still works and quite honestly boots into Carplay and resumed the music just as fast as if I had cabled in. Went out and ran errands, in and out of the car, it worked as originally hoped for when I ordered. WOAH!

BTW, I did reply to the manufacturer's email response that eventually came. I explained the unit did not work as expected and that I wanted to return the unit. Took 2 more days but they responded again with return info (to China) and that there would be a $25 restocking fee. I replied to that email saying I would fight the restocking fee with the CC company because the reason for the return was the device was not working and as a paying customer, not a beta tester, the unit was not baked enough to be a restocking situation.

But it works for now, so we will see what it does and whether I want to cancel the return.

That’s great news. Definitely gonna try this on my day off Tuesday. I’m not very computer savvy so wish me luck. They advertise this as plug and play but I don’t think so :(

They should call it "Plug & Playa-round".

Or “Plug and get pissed off”

This came direct from China. If this thing was sold locally I would have returned it already. Just not worth the aggravation. The cable works fine.

It's a miracle - IT WORKS :like:

So I was trying to follow the instructions that Michelle5150 posted, thanks again and is the 5150 a Van Halen reference ? Eddie is a GOD to me :sunglasses:

I don't have a FAT32 option on my mac to format my USB flash drive. ( Realize i'm not super computer savvy ) so .... I was gonna format it to ExFAT and take my chances and do this but ... I didn't want to take a chance and blow up my car ( Realize I'm not computer savvy ) and just joking on the blow up my car thing - kinda sorta :explode:

so I checked my e-mail and I got instructions from Roxeanne at the CarPLAYair2 company. I followed them as best as I could and it works. It's all mystery to me how it fixed the problem but It works :like:

Here's the instructions just in case someone is surfing away and is looking for help.
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
We have just released a new update today. Kindly update your adapter and let me know if it fix the problem.

Firmware update instructions
1. Connect your phone to the adapter and wait until CarPlay appears on the screen.
2. Enter 192.168.50.2 in your browser and click “Go.”
3. If you see an update available, click it.
4. Wait until the update bar reaches 100%.
5. When CarPlay reappears on the screen, you’re done!

Setup
1. Turn on the Bluetooth and WiFi networks on your phone.
2. Make sure your phone is not connected to any other WiFi or Bluetooth networks and remove the hands-free connection from your phone and car system settings.
3. Plug the adapter into the CarPlay USB port.
4. Wait for the interface to appear on the screen.
5. Click the search button.
6. Select the phone you want to pair the adapter with (or connect via the Bluetooth displayed on the screen).
7. Select "Pair" on your phone when the notification appears.

Thank you!

Yeah. I’ve been a =VH= fan my whole life. Eddie is why I picked up guitar when I was a kid. I actually won a 5150 III amp signed by Ed a few years back through EVH Gear. One of my most prized possessions, well, besides my Mustang. :)

I knew it and that's awesome about the amp. Guitar player here as well
Seen VH twice. 1980 in Rochester and 2015 at Bethelwoods. Great show and at the end when everyone was leaving, everybody chanted 'Eddie - Eddie - Eddie " throughout the entire place.

It was spiritual :sunglasses:

How long did it take for ya’ll to receive your adapter? Mine showed as shipped on 12/9, and tracking info has not changed from “origin post is preparing shipment” since then.

I ordered mine on 12/6/19. Chinese tracking was useless. I received it 12/23/19
