Here’s what he did in his words. What upgrading did you/he do ?
I see you have SYNC 3.3. I have SYNC 3.0 I wonder if that is the difference ?
“To the best of my memory, this is the route I followed that worked. I've tried to simplify this a bit, there was A LOT of guesswork here. I've dealt with small headless devices before, but this one takes the cake for lack of feedback, and using the main, very buggy, buggy channel as the primary upgrade channel.
0. If you already have a "car" in carplay for the CPlay2Air, make the iPhone forget it.
1. Download the firmware update file from here: https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0268/4171/0674/files/Auto_Box_Update.img?197
2. Save update firmware file on USB flash drive (Flash drive format must be FAT32)
3. Plug the flash drive into the CPLAY2air adapter.
4. Plug CPLAY2air to USB power charger/wall charger. Don’t use the USB port of the car or computer!!
5. Wait 2-3 minutes, until the red LED and the blue LED will light up at the same time.
6. Unplug the adapter from the USB charger and remove the USB flash drive from the adapter.
7. Plug the product into the USB port of the car.
8. Wait until the new window will appear on the vehicle's screen.
9. Connect your phone the to the WIFI SSID network which is shown on the screen.
10. Input 192.168.50.2 on your phone browser.
11. Once the software will be activated, unplug the device and plug it back in.
12. Wait for the new interface to appear on the car's screen
13. Connect your phone the to the WIFI network of the device
14. Input 192.168.50.2 on your phone browser (don't reuse the existing tab)
15. Follow the directions on the webpage to upgrade the device.
16. Once the upgrade is complete, unplug the device and plug it back in.
17. Wait for the interface to appear on the car's screen.
18. Connecct your phone via CarPlay to the device, it should show up as a new car.
19. Make sure to wait, the entire process from the device booting up, to the carplay connection takes 10-30 seconds.”
